The check-in was faster than other companies I’ve used recently. The car was clean and in good condition. The drop-off was very quick and the attendant was very friendly. All in all the best experience I’ve had in the past few years and so I will use Alamo again next time

Rental car in Detroit had defective key fob. Progressively harder to start car. Couldn’t open doors with fob. When I got the car it only had about 3000 miles on it. Car itself was nice and new. Couldn’t understand why fob in a new car wouldn’t work. Finally traded car in Traverse City for a car and fob that worked. Was traveling in Northern Michigan and was worried that we would be stranded somewhere in the woods.

The car drove well and was a good value. However trash was left inside at pick up. The transport or shuttle service was taking off while I was trying to board. I was having a tough time walking and managing my bag. Thank goodness for the kindness of strangers. Fellow passengers yelled at the driver to stop a d helped me board.Shuttle experience and cleanliness of vehicle.

Staff was helpful and friendly!The minivan I rented was not clean, there was crackers and crumbs in the rear seats and under the middle seats, it looks like they wiped down the front two seats but you rent a minivan because you need to seat a lot of people and we had to clean it up before anyone would sit in the rear seats. I was highly disappointed.

For the 1st time ever in Detroit the Shuttle driver helped with bags. Service at counter and in yard was goodThey could’ve actually had a Chevrolet suburban that I reserved we ended up with a foreign car but at least it had nicefeatures on it it’s kind of sad to go to Detroit and have to drive a foreign car

Staff at counter and driving shuttle were very good. Price was quite high compared to past rentals with Dollar. During a minor routine traffic stop, a check of Illinois plate created some confusion for Roscommon Sheriff’s office when deputy said vehicle did not come back as rental but to a private owner. He told me it seemed unusual, reviewed rental agreement and told me to give his name and department should the need arise later on. Still don’t know what that was about. But otherwise, vehicle was quite satisfactory and met all our requirements just fine.

Arrived to pick up reserved car. Was not available. Clerk was rude and blamed me. I called customer service who hung up on me. Then my membership was deleted. I am now with enterprise. Very happy there.

Poor customer service, agent was very aggressive with insurance and with overt judgment and comments. Poor car condition, lots of dings and scratches on car. No one came to assist with car in lot. Car had brake issues and transmission issues.

The pickup was easy since there was no other customer in the office. The place was D E A D. That was good for me.The drop off process was very poor. There was no attendant. I was just told to leave the car in the lot and walk away. Someone would process it later and send me a receipt. But one day later I still do not have a receipt !!

The van ran good. We needed to keep it longer, it was very easy to call the 800 # and extent the time.The pick up & drop off process needs improvement. The people behind the desk seem indifferent and lazy. We had to write down the damage on the vehicle, which was dirty and hard to tell. Upon return, there was no one outside to accept the vehicle. When I went inside, I was asked to return the key to the vehicle & get the mileage. No one looked at the car

Staff was friendlyThe shuttle took 15min to come, it was nowhere in sight, while Avis and Hertz etc has 3 come by one after the other, barely picked me up right before 1am, it’s when they close, so i almost didn’t get my car. Stood in the cold for awhile. It wasn’t that unbearable but the fact that i saw everyone else’s shuttle come 3 times and my company closed at 1am and it was 12:52 when they picked me up. I would rather not use Thrifty’s again if i has a choice.

Drop-off was smooth. Car was clean and a good choice.The car was in need of an oil change the whole time, according to the display, as well as having the tire pressure low, which i had to look at the whole time, but no trouble, really. The computers were down at pick-up, which made the wait about an hour, but the agents were quite friendly and apologetic about the situation

Drop off was easy. Process was quick.Booked a "luxury" car. Upon arrival I was told they didn't have any cars in that category. Why let me book it then? I ended up with a Toyota Corolla....hardly luxury. They said on the plus side, I didn't get charged any extra. I should have been charged less in my opinion. Why pay for luxury but receive compact?

Pick up was a disaster, long wait and much confusion between Avis, Budget and Payless. Car turned out to be an SUV that was backed up to a light post base so the rear door couldn’t be opened to put in luggage. Drop off was also a mess as there was no place to put the car and no directions to bus stop. I was directed into a spot which was partially blocked by a plastic post so I couldn’t get in straight. I also was not expecting to have $250 charged to my card when the rental was PREPAID!

The car windows would have benefited from a treatment of RainX...during a couple of rain storms the raindrops beaded up so much on the side windows and side mirrors that it was very difficult to see through them. I even stopped once to wipe them off, but they instantly beaded up again.

It began after reserving the car on Kayak, the rental was due back six hours before the time I had requested. Calls to priceline (Kayak went through priceline?) and payless were unhelpful as both said I needed to call the other to change a dropoff time. After four calls, two to each company I gave up, then I told them when I picked up the car and they said they couldn't help me either. Finally, I just dropped the car off at a time between my requested drop off and when they had scheduled me and was told it was fine and there would be no additional charge. Pick up was a nightmare, I waited for over two hours to pick up my car in Detroit. The process was poorly organized and service was slow, though the attendants at the desk were kind. The car was acceptably clean and nice. The return process was easy too. However, I was double charged for the car (from the third party I found the rental through and from Payless). I still haven't been able to get the charge from Payless removed from my card. An extra $228 with slow and unhelpful response.

Yikes - I recognize the challenges in today's rental car and employment market, but the DTW process is a total train wreck! Arrived to an office that was overwhelmed with people, lines that were not marked so that "your correct line" could not be easily identified, workers that were doing their best but angry customers, customers whose car weren't where they were sent or had overt mechanical issues, etc. The lot add additional cars parked all over and if there WAS signage for the exit, it was not apparent to me...or to the others who like me were creeping around the lot in the dark trying to get out. The process coming in was the same - left to park in the chaos where ever as no one directing traffic (or signage). Then someone comes and points me to a better place (after I'm already unpacked) and when we get there...no one there to help. I waylaid a rather lost worker to finally check out. If that's the rule at DTW, I will fly/rent elsewhere in the future.

Payless did not have its own facility, but said to use Budget/Avis. When I arrived, there was a line for Budget and for Avis but none for Payless. When I asked the staff where I should go, an employee told me he wasn't sure if there was a Payless person around and he would have to check "in a minute." He then proceeded to sit at his computer terminal and ignore me for ten minutes. I had to ask another employee who the "Payless person" was, and finally someone helped me. But then, even though I had prepaid for my reservation, it turned out that they didn't have any cars available and had to contact "dispatch" to get one. I ended up waiting a long time for a car. The car had a dirty windshield and bad wipers and was hard to see out of when it rained.

The Budget car rental staff and policy are the worst I have ever dealt with. Especially Kayak. HOW CAN YOU LET A DRIVER RESERVE A VEHICLE THAT YOU MUST BE 25 TO RESERVE AND THEN CANCEL FOR A FEE. WITH NO AGE VERIFICATION. Completely B.SHAVE AGE VERIFICATION BEFORE RESERVING A CAR THAT REQUIRES A CERTAIN AGE TO EVEN PICK UP!!!!!

Check in counter was a nightmare. Waited in line for 90 minutes. Shuttle bus driver was warning all of the passengers of the disaster that was in store for Budget customers (but the Avis line, despite the merger, was very short). Car was dirty with garbage in the back seat. Not worth the very little savings we got.

The staff was amazing and the services was great once I got to the counter. This is mainly for the Detroit pickup. Got there at 7 and was in line for 2 hours to get my car. It was impacted from travel and the state of covid, and the location was severely understaffed. I felt uncomfortable since there were no options for me to wait in line and be safe for a large group of people. It would be nice if there was a virtual queue or we could handle it through the app. I am fine with waiting if I am able to get clear information about what line to stand in for what company. It was a mess with Payless, Budget, and Avis all in one small office for at least 60 people. Once I got the car and worked with the staff I had a great experience.

I used this vehicle to move in state. The cargo space was great, but when I folded the seats down there were chips and other food bits that should have been vacuumed. Other than that, the staff were helpful, kind and efficient and the rental experience was easy and positive overall.

The rental car itself was ok.Kayak booked my reservation 30 minutes away from the airport. When this was determined by the staff at Hertz Detroit airport, they were unwilling to help arrive at a solution. I had to leave the Hertz area and book through Thrifty/Dollar in order to obtain a rental car. Additionally, the area where I needed to work with the Hertz Detroit airport representative was in a closed in space, making me less comfortable during COVID.

Great car, some staff not-so-greatCar was excellent -- clean and ready to go. Unnecessary stress at initial check-out, but returning the car was quick and easy.Initial check-out was bad. Credit card reader didn't work, and rather than try another one (that particular card reader wasn't working), I was told to call the third party I had pre-paid for the rental (Kayak) and tell them I'd have to use a different card. Finally, I went to a different clerk further down the counter who simply ran my card on her card reader and it was fine. The whole encounter added another 15 minutes of unnecessary stress. I had also noticed the customer in front of me having a similar problem with the same clerk.

Staff was incredibly kind and patient but Avis corporate is failing their people. The line was out the door when I arrived from my flight because Avis has not employed enough people to work the desk. This location shares a facility with Avis's other labels (Payless and Budget). The layout for which line reached which label was unclear but the shuttle drivers were able to help direct confused customers. Once it was your turn to work with the staff, they were kind, helpful, and positive (despite being overworked themselves). The car was also not very clean. It was clear that someone had smoked in the car at some point recently (presumably an earlier customer). Hard to stomach paying the daily rate with this company, despite the great in-person staff.

Disappointed in Avis quality controlThe Volvo V60 was an awesome car overall — really comfortable, responsive and got good gas mileage.Almost everything went wrong with this 3 day rental. I wasn’t on Avis Preferred yet that’s my tier listing. The car class we ordered (intermediate SUV) wasn’t available although the parking lot was PACKED with SUVs — we tried to take several others but “they weren’t in the computer” (in all fairness, our agent, Sara, was really great — it appeared to be a back office and operations staff problem). Since we had waited 45 minutes already, we swapped UP to the Volvo V60 - the car stank of cigarette smoke, it hadn’t been washed (why was it in the system if it hadn’t been cleaned?) and it had big scratches on three sides. We stopped at the exit gate and had the nice guy there fill out a damage report including the smoke. Then the low tire pressure guage went off — we filled up the tires and it still stayed on the whole weekend — stressful! We had guests who told us our car stank of smoke.... When we returned it, there was no one there to do a check in (on a Monday at 5pm) for 15 minutes... THen I had to show him my damage report — he wanted to take it — I told him “no way - this is MY copy and you have your own.” Guess he gave up and just charged me. Probably someone else is getting the car without a cleaning also... Detroit - get your act together!

I was refused a rental car because the ID reader was not up to date and did not recognize my driver’s license. It is a basic enhanced real ID from MN. Very disappointed and frustrated. I also waited at least 20 minutes for the manager to come “verify” that they couldn’t rent me a car. They didn’t even try to help me find a solution. What a waste of time. Shout out to Enterprise for finding me a rental!

Pickup was terrible. Drop off was easyThe car was great and drop off was quick and easy.The pickup was terrible. Attendant in the lot just stared right through me as I asked a question 3 times and then yelled into his radio. Eventually I gave up and figured it out myself. He never acknowledged that I was even standing there. Then i walked all the way across the lot to the building and the clerk inside asked a bunch of questions about insurance even though I purchased it when I booked the car. I didn't know it was third party but he acted like it was no good. Then told me to go out by the fence to get a truck. The only vehicles by the fence were needing maintenance. Someone drove by and told me to go back in and have him call for one. So I did. Waited 15 more minutes and the lady from Alamo came to ask if I was waiting for a truck and that it had been parked on the other side.
