Unprofessional and arbitrary rule.Pros:Price, but other companies have similar prices. I've rented from all LAX companies and this one is at the bottom of the list. Plus is that their seem to have plenty of shuttles.Cons:Requested proof of insurance (which no other rental in the US or outside ever requests). Would not accept my showing online where my insurance company showed payment. I don't believe they were asking other renters and felt discriminated. Had to call my insurance company to email scanned image of insurance card. Then, while none of the agents were serving any clients except the the one sent that had told me she would not rent to me, they made me wait for that one agent - seemed like just to further harass. In addition, be aware, the like Fox Rental, this company requires a deposit - in this case $200.Reviewed 2016 Jan 27

Unimpressed, won't be backPros:My husband and I live in Irvine. We flew into LAX with our young daughter and planned to rent a car to drive home. I reserved one through Kayak but once we got to Advantage the company turned us away saying we didn't qualify to rent a car. Apparently if you are local you have to have full coverage insurance on your personal car (instead of just liability, which is completely legal in the state), to rent a car from Advantage. The conpany doesn't even offer their own insurance if you don't -- they just turn you away. So we were stranded! Luckily Alamo was just don't the street. We had no issues renting from them. We are in our young 30s and have excellent credit with no driving history. Not sure why Advantage doesn't want our business but that's fine -- we'll never go there again.Reviewed 2017 Jan 07

Pros:Barely anything.Cons:Initially, we waited more than half an hour for the shuttle to take us from the airport to the car rental. It never came, while other car companies shuttles were coming 3 or 4 times. We had to take a taxi to the car rental! Notwithstanding, when we arrived at Advantadge we faced an unending line, and had to wait there for 1 hour and a half!!!!! until we could be attended to pick up the car! On top of that, while on the road, the car showed an alarm saying "maintenance needed." We almost freaked out. Terrible service, car was under our expectations, and the price was definitely not worth it for the bad experience that we had. Because of the delay to pick up the car we spent hours in traffic to go from LA to Palm Springs, wasted time that we could have enjoyed in the city and suffered a lot of stress. We were really disappointed. We are never renting again or recommending this car rental company.Reviewed 2016 May 05

LAX Shuttle Service - Non-existentPros:Car was new and in good overall condition. Drop-off was a breeze. Price was excellent.Cons:Waited for an 30 minutes for a shuttle to come by. Started calling the local Advantage office. Called 4 times, navigated the VRU to get to a live agent. All four times the phone rang until it disconnected. Ended up taking a shuttle to another rental car company and then walking almost a mile with my luggage. When I got to Advantage, there were 3 agents all clearly with phones at their stations - why not pick up the phone!? At any rate, it was already 10:45pm and I had a long drive, so I just got the car and went. The car had not been cleaned, interior or exterior, and the insides of the windows were so dirty that I had to stop and buy windex and paper towels to clean them. Pros:Rates, service at the counter and return were terrific. The car was in great shape and ran reliably, so terrific there.Cons:The shuttle pick up at the Airport took over 20 mins to come, people on the shuttle were complaining the driver was taking too long. The shuttle to the airport was much better. I was concerned when I picked up the car to be informed that I was responsible for the tires. Really? I get the car after who knows who and however much wear and tear has been put by others and I am responsible for the tire wear from those before me as well as my own? I will think twice when renting from you again if this continues to be the case. Lied to at Pick Up - unacceptablePros:The vehicle itself was good, drop off was speedy and virtually no wait for the shuttle to the airport (although the latter possibly by chance).Cons:I have hired cars all over the world during my travels but never been bare faced lied to about 3rd party insurance. My credit card covers me for insurance and has worked out fine on 4 different continents so I didn't want to buy any further insurance. "CJ" at Advantage told me, and I queried with him to make sure he chose his words carefully, that it was 'obligatory'. It is not. I wish that I had seen the other reviews before booking as it is indeed much wiser (and will probably end up less expensive) to use a reputable company instead.Reviewed 2016 Feb 08

Incredible long line ans hidden feesPros:Car drove wellCons:The line to take the car took exactly 52 minutes from then I arrived in the rental office to when I was able to talk to a person. Total time was 1h02minutes. As a consequence I lost an appointment. Despite my existing coverage thru my card, the teller told me I needed to hire additional coverage. Total cost ended us being double of what I reserved for. The fees were not explained in the booking process. The car was not the model I had booked, this is generally a big deal, but the ca I got seemed worse.Reviewed 2018 Sep 03

You get what you pay forPros:Decent, clean vehicle but no extras. No automatic locks or windows and manual key entry.Cons:I was told there would be a $200 hold/deposit on my vehicle and they ended up charging the entire amount to my card. Not happy about the way it was not truthfully explained. The shuttle took 40 minutes to get picked up from the airport. I waited another 30-40 minutes to get my vehicle. The vehicle was very basic and older and mostly manual locks, entry and windows but I'd waited so long already I didn't want to make my wait for the car any longer by asking for another. When I returned my vehicle off at 3:45am I was told the shuttle was coming in 15 minutes to take me to the airport. It took 30 minutes and when the driver arrived he parked and got himself some coffee and checked in on some parked vehicles while we all stood outside and watched from the line. They must have been understaffed that early in the morning. Overall not a "bad" experience but I don't think I'll come back.Reviewed 2017 Jun 05

will rent from them again in LA - you get what you pay forPros:extremely cheap!! van happened to go by right as I was asking another car rental company where i should be standing and so they whistled and carried on until they stopped for me and i hopped right on. short slow line to pick up car. counter clerk was very helpful but indeed pushy to buy the insurance. when i refused, he allowed everyone else to wait while i called my husband to get my car insurance info out of my car at home and then they also waited while i called the car insurance company. all good in the end though! car was clean enough but certainly not immaculate. gas was not completely full. i extended my use of the car and the people on the phone were very nice. return was a breeze.Cons:gas not completely full slow line to pick up carReviewed 2017 May 23

Be Prepared to WaitPros:The car was fairly new, although pretty gutless from a power perspective. Drop-off wasn't difficult and the van ride back went smoothly.Cons:I had to wait for about 75 minutes in line to get my rental and missed an appointment because of it. I always allow time in my schedule for hiccups but I felt this was excessive. The car was mostly, but not entirely clean. Not even fully washed. If you get the "economy" class just know that the car will have no power. Mine was a Nissan Versa and any type of acceleration requires a jarring downshift. No amenities either: manual windows and locks. On the plus side, it gets good mileage. I waited for approximately 20 minutes for the Advantage shuttle at LAX. Cons:My wife and two 15 year old girls flew to Los Angeles for vacation. Because of flight delays, they did not get to the rental agency's office Til 430 am, about 4 hours late. Advantage had let the car to someone else and had no other cars available. Not only was this inconvenient, it cost them another hour and a half of time given the distance of the rental company from the airport and the additional travel. Plus, it put them closer to 6 o'clock in the morning Los Angeles time which was 9 o'clock in the morning Atlanta time. Jetlagged was horrible. So then we had to pay for a cab to get to the hotel where we rented a car. So there was another additional cost in addition to the inconvenience. Of course the new rental agency was much more expensive because we were unable to shop at. We will not use advantage again.Reviewed 2016 Sep 07

Pros:The in-person staff was overall friendly.Cons:I had to change my reservation several times over the phone because my flight departure kept getting pushed out. All reps were kind, although the last one was very unhelpful. She couldn't give me any options other than to cancel my reservation and wait until I saw the rep at the counter. She was wrong. I kept my reservation and asked the rep if they would honor the rate as my flight was very late to arrive, and he did. I would have liked a more helpful phone rep to give me some other options or better customer service. Lastly, there was ONE person working at the counter with a VERY long line waiting - it took a total of 1 hour for the wait.Reviewed 2016 Jul 03
