Cons: I was surprised to learn that there was a $10.00 flat charge and a $7.99 per day to use their expressway toll payment system.
I know this is optional, but when you are noit from Puerto Rico, you have no idea where the expressways are.
I have family that live there and they tell me that a $7.99 daily charge is a "rip-off". Other car rental agencies charge way less.and no flat charge of $10.00.
I will not rent from them again!
Watch out for the added fees for using the Toll ro
Cons: It doubled the price of our rental to add on using the toll roads, most of which do not have a cash option. Took a very long time to get the car. Also not located at the airport.
Cons: Not professional and devious. Took over 1 hour 15 minutes to pick up slightly damaged car (we were in hurry so we took it but had them note the damage and we took picture). Took over 1 hr and 30 minutes to return. They tried to make us pay for damage - first $500 then $300. They were all over the place w what they tried to charge us even after they finally took off for damage. Good thing we had picture and we had email w original quote of what it sould cost. Still ended up costing more than original quote but you are so exasperated and exhausted and late that you end up giving in. Other employees walk around while one person very slowly handles everyone in line. Never ever again will use Allied.
Waited 3 hours for a car rental in Puerto Rico fac
Pros: Gave us an upgraded car.
Cons: There was an extremely long line with only one person taking care of general rentals. This one person took 30-50 min per renting family and if my group did not have a senior citizen driver which took us to the return/senior citizen/ handicap line (we realized later) we would have been waiting for 4 hours to rent a car. My friends who rented at Payless walking distance away only took 15 minutes. Someone who came in to return a car told us he was there the day before and had to wait 3 1/2 hours to finally rent his car. Never again will I rent from a company that has such poor customer service.
Good price, but many surprise
Pros: Very good starting price. Fast check out. Good car fleet.
Cons: Big extra charge for pick up - drop off !? Charge for facility !? Need improve waiting line procedure. Need more current info about car availability. Need more English spoken personal.
Cons: Our rental rate nearly doubled when they charged us for insurance we declined up front. Tons of other fees in addition to kayaks. Almost made us miss our flight with long lines. Worst experience in my life!! Be aware!!!
READ! Ol' Bait and Switch
Pros: The car I eventually got was great. Clean and performed great, was brand new. Had many amenities like Sirius radio that were unexpected. The line to return was short and would have been efficient, had I not needed to talk to the manager (see negatives)
Cons: From the beginning, I booked a car on Kayak for a total of $191, a day later Allied emailed me a total of $235, which included a lot more taxes and some fees Kayak did not indicate. Two weeks later, Allied sent a new reservation total of $418, which were due to even more fees and increased taxes. I emailed them and asked the to honor my original Kayak price and they emailed a new reservation for $241 (with no explanation), essentially duplicating the first they had sent me. I called the day before to confirm my car and was told it would be there. Upon arriving, the line was out the door and customers were taking at least 20 minutes to process. After waiting an hour, we decided to play our handicap card (Ehler's Danlos). Mr. Alvarado waited on me, though his co worker asked why we were in the disabled line and demanded proof, the nerve. Mr. Alvarado said my car was not available and I could either wait 15-30 minutes for it to return or take a $30 upgrade. As we were at least #3 to wait for our car (and #1 had waited far longer than 30 minutes), we took the upgrade. Others in line said there were no cars at other agencies, handcuffing us. He claimed Jet Blue had cancelled flights and people refused to return the car. I told Mr. Alvarado I was unhappy and wanted them to honor our original agreement (the couple in front of us got a free upgrade) and he said we could talk to the manager upon returning the car. He asked me to sign a blank signature pad, saying what I was signing for instead. I protested, but he insisted I'd have a copy of it all. The copy then indicated a roadside assistance charge and other charges I did not agree to, but had no upgrade documentation, only our original rental price. Leaving, I talked with the exasperated employee who brought our car and casually asked him why they were so busy, saying the computers did not close when they ran out of cars, meaning they had rented my car out from under me. I cut my vacation short to return the car days later to ensure we would not miss our flight due to the lines we saw. We were second in line that day! Mr. Alvarado was again our agent and he gave me my new invoice with price breakdown and it was above what I was prepared to pay. This new invoice had the upgrade charge and the other fees I did not agree to. I asked why my original invoice did not have the upgrade and he said the invoice did not have room to document this, but he remembered me taking the upgrade. After waiting at least 20 minutes to speak to a manager and explaining, she said she could take off only the upgrade or the fees, so I took the bigger discount and am disputing the rest. AVOID!
Lots of hidden fees not estimated by Kayak
Cons: In our San Juan car reservation, Kayak did not include tons of fees, including user facility fees, state taxes and municipal taxes on the estimate. It also did not include the mandatory electronic toll fees of $7 per day, $1.95 daily license fees, and $2.95 daily energy recovery fees. Kayak's 2-week estimate of $530 was highly underestimated... It turned out that our reservation cost of $1038.16. In addition, the USB charging port on the car did not work.
Pros: Prompt shuttle service.
Cons: Check Out Process was extremely slow, it took an hour even though there were only two customers ahead of us and one had started being helped before we got there.
Why such a bad rap?
Pros: So many negative reviews but we had nothing but a positive experience. Everybody was helpful the price was what we thought it would be and the return was no problem and speedy. Car was economy so we got what we paid for.
Great car but service was hit or miss
Pros: We originally reserved a Jeep Wrangler for touring Puerto Rico but ended up with more luggage than expected. We were easily able to upgrade to a Nissan Rogue which was more than comfortable for our family of 4 plus 6 suitcases (upgrade did cost extra $300 for the week though).
Cons: Our original flight was delayed do we didn't arrive at the rental office until very late at night. There were only 2 people working and took them 1 1.5 hours to process us plus 1 other family. When we brought the car back to a satellite office right across from our hotel we were hassled by the check in attendant who claimed we had a small dent in the passenger door and wanted us to file a claim with our insurance company! We took the car back to the main rental office (losing the rest of our vacation beach time) and they ended up taking the car without any claim since the dent was so small you couldn't really even see it.
Cons: when we arrived the clerk behind the desk said "your reservation was set for 9:00PM this evening, please take a 17 person van and return this evening or tomorrow morning to pick up your mini van." when i reviewed the invoice i noticed the clerk inserted a line for insurance that i would pay. i told him we have insurance he said "no problem, when you return show us the policy number and name you'll be fine" So the next morning I called United to see if the Mini Van had indeed arrived back, the reply was no. So I repeatedly called for several days. When i finally gave up after the 3rd day. after 7 days i returned the car, and asked that the insurance be removed and he said "NO" you signed the agreement that you would pay. I told the clerk the agreement of 7 days ago he said "look you signed our agreement" they are a fraudulent the manager has zero interest in customer satisfaction.
