Gutless wonderPros:Car was clean and full of gasCons:We rented a Diahatsu Terios 4x4 because we would be taking many very hilly, dirt roads. This car has a small engine and barely made it up many hills. We had to put it in 1st gear all the way up. It was truly a gutless wonder and would recommend renting a 4x4 with a larger engine.Reviewed 2017 Feb 02

Cons:Beware - The counter reps will try to sell you the prepaid petrol, stating it is cheaper at Budget than at petrol stations. This is not true. Also decline the damage insurance even if they claim it is 'mandatory'. They're running a scam at this location. The San Jose location clearly advertises that you can decline the insurance if your credit card covers rental insurance - just make sure to have a document from your credit card company (all it takes is a quick phone call) clearly stating that your rental will be covered in Costa Rica.Reviewed 2017 Feb 01

Pros:car itself was ok. customer service was fine in costa ricaCons:the insurance should be listed when you order the car. or at least provide an estimate. its unfair to blindside the consumer and charge them double. ridiculous as a matter of fact. and if only manual transmissions are available, that should be made clear also. i was stuck driving the entire trip because my girlfriend has never driven manual transmissionReviewed 2017 Jan 22

False advertisingPros:I initially reserved a full size and regular suv. In the picture for full size it showed what appeared to be a chevy suburban and the regular showed what appeared to be a ford edge. When I arrived at the rental place the full size was a rav4 and the regular was a very small suv. I find this to be false advertising and was very upset. Other than this service was very good. Car wasn't great. Slow return servicePros:The pickup service at the airport was fast and the driver was very professional. Check in at the desk was relatively quick, but I have had better in LIR (Alamo). The wifi service was also a great option instead of the GPS unit, although it was 20 USD per day, which seemed excessiveCons:The SUV I rented was an older Daihatsu with one plug for the wifi hotspot or my phone, so I could not charge both at the same time. Overall the car was fairly scratched up and there was a baseball sized hole in the grill. When I returned the car, they have a new return station and the person checking the car makes you wait as he thoroughly checks for dents, scratches, windshield wipers, broken windshield/windows. He also did not use the agreed-upon inspection that showed damage already on the vehicle.Reviewed 2017 Jan 09

Pros:Car was in good shape and cleanCons:Budget in Costa Rica slapped on a $20 per day tax despite the fact that we had 2 kinds of insurance already. The website said "SUV" large car that would seat 6 people with seat belts and when we arrived they said gave us their version of a large car- a smaller car that seated 5 people. One of us had to ride without s seat belt. Very frustrating!!! We tried to safeguard against both of these and feel very taken advantage of!!!Reviewed 2017 Jan 01

Prefect rental experiencePros:The company had a rep in the airport before leaving customs, someone waiting outside, immediate bus service to the office, friendly staff, nice upgrade (recommend getting the diesel if you can) , quick in and out. The return was also very fast and friendly with immediate transfer to the airport. Good price and good service, can not ask for more.Cons:I had no complaints.Reviewed 2017 Jan 01

Hidden mandatory Insurance charges and BS Gas CharPros:Car was in good shape and did well on roads.Cons:Kayak quoted a price that did not include the mandatory $20/day insurance so there was a perception that Budget was less than others when that was untrue and misleading. At inspextion I was charged for 1/8 of tank when barely 15 miles were used from full. Never using budget or Kayak again.Reviewed 2016 Dec 15
