Pros: Staff great to deal with
Cons: Mandatory insurance and added protections for its not just the liability. They force you to purchase a minimum package which had us paying 7 x what the quote is online. Costa Rica has mandatory liability insurance coverage that you must buy but this company forces a package upon you.
DO NOT USE ACE!!!!
Cons: I reserved an automatic SUV a week in advance. When I got there they told me they only have manual pickup tucks and told me I was SOL, had no other options and my only choice was take that at the same rate or cancel my reservation. We cancelled and went to Enterprise. Do yourself a favor and avoid at all cost!
Pros: Friendly staff, quick process, and decent price. Made a 10-day reservation for an SUV for about $325, and had to pay the local insurance for the vehicle. In the grand scheme of the cost and everything that went with it, it was totally worth it.
Pros: The folks at the ACE office in Liberia, CR were absolutely wonderful!
No Car on Christmas Day - November Reservation
Pros: Disappointed with ACE Car Rental- need to recover $25 deposit and $45 Allianz car rental insurance.
Cons: On Christmas Day our flight was delayed so I called the ACE car rental in Liberia, Costa Rica to confirm my reservation and to state that our arrival time would be two hours later. The agent immediately stated that there were no more cars available. I advised the agent that I had a reservation and provided him the confirmation number. He put me on hold and came back to advise me that my car was given away. I told him that he had 4-5 hours before I arrived and that hopefully he could find me a car. When I arrived at Liberia airport in Costa Rica, I again called ACE car rental and told them hat I had a reservation and needed a pickup. I provided the agent my confirmation number and he put me on hold which eventually was hung up. I called again and another agent told me that there were no cars available. I told him that I had made this reservation in November and asked how could I have no car available when the reservation was made in advance. He advised me that he was sorry but that there also 5 other customers with the same problem. I asked him when a car would be available and said not until the new year. He said if I wanted a car I could go to the airport car rental counter and get a car with another company. This reservation was booked through KAYAK in November at a great rate of $10.40 per day and when I went to the car rental counter in LIR the best rate I could get was $110 per day or $550 for a 5 day rental. Being a single mom traveling with 3 sons I did not want to spend that much money at the beginning of our vacation for a car rental so instead I used a taxi to get to our location of Playas del Coco. This was the first time I booked with KAYAK and was totally disappointed. ACE car rental had the lowest rate but did not provide any service. It seemed to me that having no cars available at ACE car rental in LIR was a common problem and that no one really cared as they probably had rented the car out at a much higher rate. If I was KAYAK I would drop them as a client as ACE car rental could really care less if their customers had cars or not.
Pros: We were cheted and refused to take the car. We would like to file a complane regarding this company and the way we were treated.
Please provide us with the information to whom the complane should go. I can be reached by my email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you for your assistance in this matter. Lev
NOT ABLE TO FIND ACE SO HAD TO FIND ANOTHER RENTAL
Cons: When I got to the airport I asked for ACE and no one knew anything about it or where it was. So, I had to rent elsewhere. I am still not sure it even exists there! It is a terrible way to arrive in a country where I am completely by myself and do not speak the language, although many people did speak English there.
Pros: Very professional, friendly and courteous service. Super fast and they even had a driver with a sign waiting at the airport to give us a ride to the facility. Would suggest this facility to anyone looking for a car instead of overpaying for bus/taxi service. Total bill was less than it would have been to get rides.
Cons: I asked whether I would need to upgrade to a 4x4 to get through the national park and was told no, but unfortunately my compact couldn't really handle the dirt/stone roads. My fault for not checking ahead of time as well.
