I will never do business with Kayak or Dollar again! This was a total disaster. My rental confirmation said SAN (off-airport shuttle) with an address in San Diego. What it did not say is the address was 20 miles away and there would be no shuttle transportation to or from the pickup and drop off destination!!! I was on my own both ways, and, as it turned out at an extra expense of $180!!! In addition when I did pick the car up I was charged an extra $66 for a 'transit fee' that was not listed on my confirmation. The ordeal cost me time and money, was a violation of the implied contract with Kayak and Dollar, and completely misleading in the terms of that contract. I have rented many cars in many cities. There have often been from off-airport locations with a shuttle provided. NEVER has the location been miles and miles away with no actual transportation provided from the airport to the pick-up location!Reviewed 2026 Jul 27

I have been flying into Scotland for 30 plus years and Dollar in Haymarket was one of my favorite experiences renting a car. No pressure to buy unnecessary insurance coverage, friendly, helpful service. Incredible value for money for a last-minute two week rental.Reviewed 2026 Jul 24

At the moment of the reservation the information I received was that I had to show my drivers license and the credit card used for the reservation. When I arrived at the store (6 months pregnant, with a 1,5 year old daughter after a 16h long journey, with large luggage) the employee did not want to conclude the rental process due to the lack of an international drivers license. Me and my husband researched on all Dollar policies available online and none of them stated this as mandatory. The attendant was totally inflexible and refused to conclude the reservation. Luckyly I was able to find a website that issued the international drivers license instantly, but it was a very stressful experience. For improvements I recommend either to make a clearer list of documents needed for rental, or clarify with the employees what is mandatory and what is not.Reviewed 2026 Jul 21

It took forever to pick up my reserved car and there was attempted wheeling and dealing at the counter. It should not take multiple phone calls and over 15 minutes to pick up a reservation—or to ask me to choose a completely different size vehicle because that’s all that’s left.Reviewed 2026 Jul 15

I was told we would have a ford transit to fit my 6 individuals and all their luggage. I even called in advance with no answer. I was given a kia caravan and told it would fit us all. Obviously it did not. So I had to rent another vehicle but was asked ti return it to California. I couldn't do so because we we were flying out of Las Vegas. So not only did I pay extra for a 2nd vehicle I was charged nearly $230 for not returning it to California. Dollar would not accept my member number at the counter because I had rented through a third party. Thus, I had to pay for my spouse to be a secondary driver. Their response, “take it up with corporate.” I have not had that experience with other car rentals through a third party before.
