I would absolutely not book with this company again. The check-in process took more than an hour. Cutting into the time I had reserved for our trip. There was only one person working the booth who claimed there was something wrong with the system. Turns out it was the printer? We watched as other lines came and went with no solution. What is the point of booking ahead and paying ahead if we are still charged a fee and made to wait so long? In addition, they said we needed to sign something on paper (apparently we couldn’t sign electronically) the attendant made us WALK to another agency to go pick up the form. Which apparently, was just a receipt. We didn’t even sign anything! The car we booked was not even available and the car pick up process took another 20 minutes! Car was washed from outside but seats were stained, crumbs under seats, not great interior cleanliness. Over all terrible experience.Reviewed 2022 Dec 14

Unfortunately I never got my rental. Arrived when I was suppose to pick up in Austin TX. They were having system problems. Waited in line for hours. Missed my appointment. Ended up having to stay the night in TX and reschedule for next day. Called to try and get refund or credit, nothing they can do. Very poor service. I get it isn’t their fault but there were 200+ people in the same boat. Many of us walked away. Forgoing our rentals. The cars never left, yet the company keeps our money. Does that seem right, I don’t think so regardless of a “non-cancellation reservation” or not. Will steer clear from them in future and recommend you do the same. Disappointing.Reviewed 2022 Apr 12

Had to use Payless when my normal car rental place was out of cars. It was fine, did not take very long at the desk or to get the car in the garage. Definitely would not hesitate to use them again if needed.Reviewed 2022 Mar 09

I pre booked and paid for my rental but when I arrived at the airport to pick up the car the Payless counter was closed. Customer were sent to the budget counter which was also closed and directions were given to go to the Avis counter. Therefore ALL Avis, Payless and Budget customers were waiting in the same extremely long line. I stood in the line for 45 minutes and 4 people were helped. If I would have waited in line I believe it would have taken me between 2-3 hours to get the rental car I had already paid for. I ended up having to rent a car on the spot through a different rental company as I was in town for a funeral and could not simply wait in line for hours. I do not know if everyone in line had pre-booked and pre-paid but if so I would recommend having an option for those customers not to have to wait in an excruciatingly long line. It remains to be seen if I am able to get a refund for the Payless rental I paid for because I did not actually ever get a rental car through them. Overall I would not rent through Payless again in the future.Reviewed 2022 Feb 23

Descent initial cost and car was nice. We found beer in our glove compartment on day 3 and I’m not happy that it was recommended at the counter to get the toll coverage and then we really didn’t need it. The cost of it was no where near what the tolls would have been. We knew nothing about tolls so we just relied on advice. The gal was great to work with. Very friendly and patient. We waited in line for close to an hour and she took time with each person and was cheerful.Reviewed 2022 Feb 07

No one at Payless counter. Signed directed me to the Budget counter. 40-50 people waiting in line with only 2 agents assisting with cars. Terrible customer service!!! Walked away and took an Uber ride.Reviewed 2021 Nov 08

I rented a Jeep Cherokee and paid for that class of vehicle due to size and 4 wheel drive capability needed. We arrived at the Austin Airport at 1:30, went to the payless counter, agent said I had an 'Open Rental"?? Not sure what that meant and took several minutes to get a manager to overide this error in the system. Finally got the voucher to pick up the vehicle and found us standing in another line (Express pick-up) for anothe hour in the garage to get our vehicle. Finally we went to get our vehicle and the agent there tried to give me a Jeep Compass ( a lower class vehicle, not sure it has 4 wheel drive??). We explained that we selected and paid for a Jeep Cherokee or similar vehicle and couldn't take the lower class Jeep Compass, he then said we'd have to go back and wait longer until he could fine another vehicle. We waited another 20-30 minutes, now 90 minutes just to pick up a rental vehicle!! This delay caused us to miss a lunch appointment with other family members (who flew in on the same flight and rented fro Hertz and got their vehicle in 15 minutes!!! What a shame this process is so slow that we can't enjoy our vacation due to the huge delay and difficulty trying to rent from you. I still have a $250.00 charge pending on my credit card today and didn't receive an email receipt??? Not a great customer experience and I hope this really gets looked at to help Payless improve their process and delight the customers so they will come back.
