Cons: I got a letter 3 weeks after the return that claimed I smoked in the car and there was excessive smoke smell. I did not smoke, never have smoked in my life. They are charging me $450 and I have petitioned their customer service multiple times. They keep escalating it to another bureaucratic level of the business to hand off the problem to the next customer service representative. I will be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau and I will be filing a consumer fraud report to the Attorney General's Office of Illinois. This company has absolutely committed fraud and is trying to find a way to book extra revenue. I will never do business with the Avis Budget group (the company that owns Payless) ever again.

Pros: Staff was friendly and professional at both pick-up and drop-off
Cons: At pick-up they switched to a different vehicle which was an "upgrade" to a mid-sized SUV for the same price. Appreciated that, but once I left MSP I realized that the vehicle had not been washed or re-filled with gas, and so the Fuel light went on almost immediately (36 miles left). So I had to immediately gas up. The net of this was that I returned the vehicle with 150 miles left, and therefore bought more gas than I actually used. I documented the issue on the day of pickup and took a photo of my gas purchase...so at least I didn't get hit with a fuel surcharge. But it would have been better for things to have been done right from the start.
Pros: Staff was friendly, especially the drop-off staff. Car was clean and operated well.
Cons: Pickup process was a bit slow. The counter guy didn't actually call for the car until I arrived at the counter. It obviously wasn't ready when I got there.
Pros: Pick up and drop off were AWFUL. Told they would bring the car to us. 10 people standing around waiting. Took over 30 minutes to get the car. Return just as bad. Numerous people just walked away leaving their cars as there was NO ONE there to check them back in.

Pros: The pick-up and drop off was very convenient. There was less of a line than other vendors, and only a short wait for the car to be made available. Location of pick-up and drop off very convenient at the airport.
Cons: They didn't specify drop off details, we just assumed it was the same location as pick-up. With the construction it's a maze to get in and out of rental location with the car.
Cons: First car we picked up was not in good mechanical condition. Wasted 2 hours of my time returning for a new car. Next car was filthy with dirty window and smelled li cigarettes.

Cons: Waited over 2 hours to pickup car. Totally understaffed with Budget, Avis, and Payless all using one desk agent. After long ordeal we cancelled our reservation with Payless and rented through Sixt. Sixty matched the price and had great customer service.
Pros: We waited in line for 2 hours to get our car from our pre-paid reservation, it appeared that the staff did not know their job or were not trained. The worst car rental experience I have EVER had.
Pros: The counter to pick up was closed, so it directed us to Avis; the young lady was happy to help us. We also got to drive a hybrid for the first time and really enjoyed it. I haven’t ever driven an ingitionless (is that the word?) car before. Drop off was similarly easy. Thanks!
