Booked car wasn't available upon arrival. They tried to offer me a subcompact SUV, which was too small for the luggage and kids, so finally got an MG ZS SUV with over 18K miles, an occasional misfire, and lacking features compared with the booked car. The cost in GBP also ended up being £50 more than the original quote. Given the current state of the travel industry, I'm not going to argue to get the money back, but I'm not going to recommend Europcar to anyone, either.Reviewed 2022 Jul 04

The car was adequate. The only downside of the experience was the constant attempts to "up-sell" (larger vehicle, automatic instead of manual, etc.). Check out took longer than it needed to. Other than that, counter help was friendly and courteous.Reviewed 2022 Jul 01

We were persuaded to upgrade to a bigger car, with concomitant charges. Insurance can be a bit costly and with a more expensive car that aspect weighs heavily. However, various options were provided to us, which were helpful. I would recommend contacting them directly to check on what insurance they take - I had purchased extra from Allianz, which they did not accept, and then I could not get hold of Allianz to cancel. So a complete ripoff. I get the impression that getting you to upgrade is regular practice, so be prepared, but in our case it actually worked out well as we needed a big trunk/boot. Beware wide cars though if you are having to navigate narrow lanes and keep meeting tractors. Practise reversing first! (There is a backup camera.) I thought the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We asked for an orientation to the car as it was a bit different from usual, and Rashid was extremely friendly and helpful. It would be great if there was a small lot where you could try the car first, especially standards. Dropoff was really easy with helpful staff and we caught the (free) Europcar bus to Terminal 2 right away. The driver could not have been more helpful with our three heavy bags and two disabled passengers. I was very grateful for his help - he made my day. Overall the staff gets my highest commendation for taking the time to help, and for their patience. I did not feel pressured.Reviewed 2022 Jun 24

I regularly use Europcar as they provide good service. Check-in took a bit longer than I am used to, perhaps add 1 more member of staff. Car also smelled a bit 'over-deoderised', had a vague hint of someone smoking in it. Car was not super clean (streaky) on outside and the windows were a bit grubby. The price more than doubled at pick up after insurance and extra driver added. Problem with key which we had to fix - they did reimburse a bit for this but was major hassle getting it sorted. Car was okay but smelled of cigarette smoke. The first customer service person was too much of a sales person for my liking and the drop of person was much much better and more professional. Europcar refused to accept my prepaid insurance sourced thro Allianz at the time of booking via the Kayak web site which moved the rental to CarRentals com. Europcar insisted that third party insurance providers were not allowed under their terms of sale ,and buying theirs was my only option. So my insurance cost for the 12 day rental went from $143 thro Allianz to $581 thro Europcar. This did not a happy camper make-- at the rental counter after an overnight flight from Phila. Allianz did reimburse the $143 given their policy was surplus to requirements. This is my first and last rental with Europcar,Kayak,and CarRentals.com.Reviewed 2022 Apr 12
