The staff seemed to be doing their best in a difficult situation handling a lot of customers. We had a reservation to pick up a car. There were other patient people waiting. It seemed chaotic, like there should have been numbers given to us to give us a clue. We waited for our turn. I paid an upgrade to drive a Volkswagen Jetta. They said a Toyota Corolla was in the same class and that’s what they had. I see now that I paid a lot for the “convenience” of picking the car up in town in addition to Kayak’s fee. That was my mistake.

Car did not come with snow tires, only car that had snow tires was extra. Car windshield was damaged during travel from rocks on high being flung up and am being charged roughly $830 for the repair for small cracks.

I rented a minivan. I called the agency to check the car insurance prices that I didn't hire on the application and they told me that the agency didn't have a minivan and couldn't have one. So if I hadn't called for some other reason, I would have arrived and they would have made a mess of all my travel plans. Bad service from Hertz for offering it and from Kayak and QEEQ for trusting what Hertz offers. I cancelled the rental and had to pay more at another agency. All bad!

bad, booked 48hrs in advance pickup at 790 southwest marine dr. was set for noon on saturday, ...they were closed and close at noon on saturday..?? called at 11:45 AM on my way there and no one answered so called customer service when I arrived at the closed location, was told that they had no more cars available there anyway...?? was told that i should go to the airport and and book again for 50$ more..?? LOL was told that's the way it works nothing can be done for me even though they obviously messed up... needed a car so went to the other location and there they are refusing payment and can't process my card for whatever reason... don't ever use this service or it's products, just go to TURO it seems as to not deal with any of that BS. There was garbage in the glove box from a previous renter. I specifically booked an SUV to accommodate people, luggage, and a baby stroller that I'd be picking up from the airport, and was instead given a compact SUV. It wasn't big enough and the rental company told me I could have a Corolla instead, which was not a good joke. They said the compact SUV was a "similar category" as the one I booked, but it was clearly not what I booked or what I needed. Because of the size issue, I ended up picking up only some of the people from the airport, and had to send the rest on the train into town.

The service was lovely but there were two issues: I had to wait 45 minutes for the car to be ready. Not a big deal to me but may be to other customers. More significant: I paid for a mid-size SUV, such as a Toyota RAV4 or Mitsuibishi Outlander. The car that I was given was a Mitsuibuishi RVR, which is one class smaller and is considered a compact SUV. If this location only has RVRs, then it should be sold as a compact SUV, not as a mid-size SUV.

I had confirmation that a car would be available but when I arrived they didn’t have a car available and sent me to another location 20 minutes drive away which caused us to miss our ferry reservation. This could have been avoided if they’d rung me in advance and not to be told when I turned up!

The car I was given was extremely loud, making me feel very unsafe driving it. Probably a first generation hybrid, hence the noise, but I question if fit to drive at all. I also asked for a receipt upon returning the car. It was denied saying the company does not allow that. It makes no sense. How can one prove they returned the car if they can't have a receipt ? First time I hear this. The two different clerks were pleasant otherwise.

KAYAK
The customer service is not great. I asked to add the insurance a couple of time and they never got it done. I called to change the car since we didn't order a basic mini suv, but I needed to go to Richmond to make the change. The car was very dirty and damaged and the tires were not great. The value was good but I'm now dealing with the customer service again for the return. They asked me to pay for the damages when a claim was sent to my insurance company since they couldn't do it properly with their insurance the first time around.

KAYAK

Pros:

I prepaid online and reserved my car to pick up at 8. Arrived at 8 to find no one there, had to call and ask for someone to help me out. I reserved the car at a specific time for a reason, and I wasn’t getting out of there with the car until after 9. A bit ridiculous in my eyes, Such a lack of care to their costumers. Oh wait there’s more. I bought insurance prior on kayak, but not straight from rent-a-car. Resulting in them withholding a massive fee on my credit card and saying I owe them nearly a grand to replace a windshield because of a tiny chip in the windshield due to driving on the highway. I’ve rented cars before and have never dealt with this kind of thing. No windshield replacement should be that much, and the chip is so minor it could easily be filled for very cheap. But instead rent a car is money grabbing and taking advantage of me. In the process of trying to figure out my claim with the third party insurance, which of course has not been easy. All in all I’m extremely upset by my experience and would recommend you go else where to rent a car.

There were no cars available even though I had a reservation and there was a room full of people waiting for cars for “at least an hour.” I tried to cancel my reservation but could not as it was booked through a third party so I paid for a car I never had.
