Pros: Absolutely nothing.
Cons: We made a reservation, showed up at the appointed time (2:00AM) and they said they didn’t have a car, even though I obviously reserved one which they acknowledged. We then had to take a taxi 30-40min away, and take another one back to the Alamo location in the morning (cutting into our time greatly forcing us to move and cut activities completely), where they then informed us they STILL didn’t have a car for us. They said so persistently, until after 20min they offer us a car (not like the one I reserved initially). Then he informs us that the insurance I paid for online won’t work, and he charges me for their insurance which was much more expensive. At this point, we were exhausted and just wanted to leave, so I paid and we took the car. As we were driving and got onto the highway, it quickly became apparent that the BRAKES DIDN’T WORK (seriously)! We then had to circle back (eating up even more time) and tell them that we almost crashed because they gave us a car with no brakes. The man looked disinterested but said ok, well we have another car now so here you go. Finally we got a car that functioned safely. We really could have died, so this car rental experience was horrific. I prefer my car rentals without attempted murder. I would never recommend this to anyone, and will actively warn people against using Alamo, and potentially Kayak in general. Terrible.
Cons: When I picked up the car around midnight right after my flight arrived, I was offered a manual though I reserved an automatic. Alamo did not have an automatic ready for me to rent. After going back and forth they offered a more expensive automatic but I had to exchange it in the morning around 9am, even after I said I had plans to head to the Pacific at 6am. They did not want me to keep the only sanitized and clean automatic they had available because it was more expensive than the one I reserved. They then decided to clean and sanitized an automatic car compatible to the one I had reserved. I had to wait another 30 minutes for this. I don’t even know if they actually sanitized the car since the workers responsible for this had left for the day. When they came back to do the paperwork after washing the car, more clients had arrived to rent cars, they accepted one person in their office without a mask. Not until I said something did they tell the person he needed to wear a mask. At this point more than an hour had passed. My 13 year old and I were exhausted from a long flight. While doing the paperwork I informed I had already paid through the reservation via Kayak $110 for the car insurance using Global Allianz. Alamo told me they did not accept Global Allianz for the car coverage and forced me to purchase their own insurance. I have sent a message to Global Allianz for a refund but have yet to receive a response. I was supposed to keep the car for 9 days. Due to this major inconvenience I ended up only keeping the car for 2 days. The price from Kayak when I reserved the car was $566 and Alamo was going to end up charging me $720, way outside of my budget. Overall the entire experience was horrible.
Pros: Absolutely no pressure for upgrading or anything else when I checked in. Very friendly staff & couldn't have asked more.
Cons: There seemed to be a miscalculation with the airport tax. I'd recommend really looking at the paperwork before you pay. For me, it was a little over $10 difference, but for others with a more expensive rental, may be much more. GOOD thing is that they were more interested in figuring it out than with arguing with me. Did not get to the bottom of it, but they did offer me a discount for a second driver that made it about even.
Pros: staff made it very complicated to drop off the car at a different location then the place you rented it out. They were rude and charge a $50 USD fee to drop it off at a different location.
Cons: I went to drop it off two hours before I was supposed to in La Fortuna and no one was in the store! I waited close to an hour for the guy to come back.
Cons: don't buy the auto insurance through kayak... youll still need to purchase with rental agency and wont get your money back from the 3rd party.
Pros: The staff was friendly and helpful. The car had an unbalanced wheel, causing shudder, but at an Alamo office the car was replaced in less than 30 minutes and the journey continued without technical problems.
Cons: The light of the back compartment was constantly on due to the faulty door switch, resulting to a dead battery during a one week long parking.
Pros: New car, very helpful staff.
Pros: 10/10 would reccomend the Alamo in Belen near the San Jose Airport. Customer service was amazing, staff was super friendly and helpful, and facilities and cars are clean and well-maintained. We upgraded for a small extra amount per day and were so thrilled with our vehicle (Toyota Fortuner). Upon returning our car to Alamo at the end of our trip, we had no wait at all before our car was checked out, receipt confirmed, and our friendly driver dropped us off at the airport. Will absolutely be return customers for our next trip.
Cons: Everything was super!
Pros: Clear instructions and help at the airport and the car pick up / return location. Shuttle was quick and easy. Also got a really great price!
Cons: Felt hassled about buying extra insurance from them when we already bought some.
Cons: Insurance was mandatory and they would not except our travel coverage, they gave us a 4x2 car when we reserved a 4x4 car. The insurance was more for rental for week, Than what I pay for insurance full coverage a year at home
Pros: Nice suv
Cons: Overcharged me!!!! Over billing!!!
Cons: If you think your reservation is for 7 people and 3 luggage’s! Make sure it is only purses! We rented a car and the trunk space wouldn’t hold a backpack. Such a scam to upgrade to a bigger car and they tried to charge nearly triple the reservation price.
