The mini is a cheap economy car and is an ideal size for solo travel or with a mate, but SUVs and people carriers are highly recommended for journeys with several relatives, friends or co-workers. Vehicle size shouldn’t be a problem navigating the town’s narrow streets as long as you take your time around tight corners and obey the speed limits.
The legal speed limit for driving within the town of Slough is 20mph for all vehicular traffic. Along single carriageway motorways, such as the A4 and A412, the speed limit increases to 60mph, but along dual carriage motorways, such as the M4, M25, M40 and A355, you are allowed a maximum speed of 70mph. Expect visible and hidden red light and speed cameras near all primary junction points and observe good driving etiquette as you go.
Not finding a free parking spot on the street? Hatfield and Herschel car parks are two huge multi-level public garages within 1 mile of the town centre where you can leave your Slough hired car. Rates typically range around £0.70 per hour or £5.00 for a stay of over 4h and are open daily until late. There are two free car parks at Shelley Close and Vicarage Way but these are small and due to their distance will require public transportation to and fro.

Pros:The guy at the rental place was unbelievably helpful in getting us an automatic car at a different company nearby. He should get a raise.
Cons:This isn't really Hertz' fault, but they didn't have an automatic car available even though I booked 6 months in advance. The 3rd party company I booked through didn't pass any of my contact info on to Hertz, so they had no way to advise me of this until I arrived. Hertz probably should have been able to arrange for an automatic car in 6 months and the 3rd party should have passed on my info.
