When I arrived at the rental center there was an extremely long line at Dollar/Thrifty and only two staff members working (slowly). While in line, a manager came out to announce that they did not have enough cars returned from other renters and the average wait was 3 hours. It did take 3 hours for a car to be ready for me and I will never book through Kayak again, nor will I ever get a car from Dollar/Thrifty again.Reviewed 2022 Aug 04

We got to counter and Dollar said they did not have any vehicles available to rent even though we had a confirmation number and code. They said they were sold out and that KAYAK sells rentals that they cannot fulfil. Will not use again.Reviewed 2022 Jul 30

I arrived at the airport location only to encounter a long line and a ton of people congregated around the rental counter area. Upon entry to the line, I was informed that Dollar staff was waiting for cars to come in before they could give out any cars and the wait was 4 hours! What the what?!?!?!? I was processed and then told the wait was maybe down to 2 hours. This turned out to be false information because I actually waited about 4.5 hours total before I had a car. To the credit of the counter workers and works out in the garage area (Hertz and Dollar alike), they were doing their darndest to handle the crowd and appease all the people waiting. I was offered several 7 passenger SUVs but none of them worked as I had elderly passengers who would have difficulty getting into the SUV along with limitations on luggage and storage in the SUVs. Once I got a minivan, the panel indicated that it needed an oil change. I informed the worker who was doing check out at the gate and she said I could either take the car or wait for another. I offered to handle the oil change myself if I could be guaranteed reimbursement but no one wanted to agree to that. I waited another 30-45 minutes with again several offers of SUVs. Because there was high demand for SUVs and minivans, I decided to just take the minivan and call for support if and when needed. During our travel, it was noticed that the car was pulling to one side and the tires weren’t catching the pavement in the rain. At a rest stop it was found that the front tires were nearly bald which was the reason for them skipping in the rain. Upon arrival in Philadelphia, I called Dollar and was told that I could exchange the car at the airport location. I cleared all items from the car and drove to the airport only to be informed that they had no cars. And I do mean NO cars as the lot was empty. I had previously called for support and received a ticket number (Dollar Customer Care Case # 14745407) This was the only ticket number I received via email for the three times I called.. Because I was on vacation with my family, I asked for a callback when a car would be available so that I would not have to continually call back and/or visit a location to check. I didn’t think this was an unreasonable request as Dollar Car rental would know their inventory much better than I would. Although I was assured that I would get a callback, it never happened. Consequently, I had the car for the entire duration of my trip but it was sketchy during the drive if the motor/engine would fail due to no oil or if the tires would cause the vehicle to not stop appropriately.Reviewed 2022 Jul 25

A 3 hour wait to pick up car, they offered the best price for a reason, no service. You get what you pay for. Flight was on time, they knew how many cars were rented and literally took over 3 hrs. Flight was shorter. Never Dollar againReviewed 2022 Jul 24

The first car they gave me had the check engine light come on after one day. Then, I noticed that the breaks were metal on metal on the vehicle. The car issued to me had over 60,000 miles and with the two factors above it was determined it was not a safe vehicle to drive through the mountains that day. The worst part is they kept telling me that they were sending me someone to pick up the vehicle and after 4 different times and 14 hours later someone actually showed up to get the vehicle. Even more frustrating, they refused to bring me a vehicle and I had to figure out a way to come and get a replacement vehicle. The catastrophe cost me a day with the vehicle and put me behind schedule. Although I was told the situation would be rectified by the receiving drop point, it was not. Simply put, the agreement was not upheld yet there was no problem taking my money with zero conscious or effort from Dollar. Sad.Reviewed 2022 Jul 16
