Thrifty Car Rental at Syracuse Airport CLOSEDCons:Made reservations on 1/21/18 for rental dates of 2/16 to 2/20. When we arrived at the airport on the morning of 2/16, we were informed by other car rental agencies that Thrifty had closed up permanently about a week prior, not only at the airport location but at all locations that the one franchisee/owner operated. We were not informed by any means, which left us scrapping for another car. We were able to obtain one through Budget/Avis, but unfortunately we were unable to get the size car we wanted. Any car is better than no car, but had the Thrifty franchisee/location owner informed us at the time they closed, we would have been able to search out a car from another agency. Poor management and ownership representation. Would like to give ZERO stars.Reviewed 2018 Feb 21

Should have driven my own car and risked breaking downPros:BluetoothCons:I paid almost $400 for 3.5 days. If the car was at least midsize it would have been almost worth it, but it was a tiny compact Ford Fiesta and I felt carsick the entire time driving it! Mind you this was almost $400 without ANY coverage. $25 extra per day because I’m under 25 years old. I will never rent from thrifty again.Reviewed 2017 Nov 27

No car despite reservationPros:not one thing.Cons:We arrived to the airport only to learn that there was no car available for us despite holding a reservation for weeks. No notification. No offer to remedy the situation. Terrible service. Will never use Thrifty again.Reviewed 2017 Oct 25

Cons:When I got there the price that you quoted for both days was only valid for day 1. Ad then when I extended by a day,it was raised again. Most other car rentals I have used get the chargecorrect up-front.Reviewed 2017 Oct 18

Bait and switchCons:Rate advertised when booked was special, "compact" - to be a vehicle "compact or larger" to be determined upon arrival. Upon check-in attendent said that rate was for whichever vehicle they have the most of, which in this case was 12-passenger vans. Driving a 12 passenger van was a rediculous option for my purpose, so I asked for a compact vehicle. She said they had none. The only other viable vehicle available was a luxury, which they said they would discount. Cost ended up being $310 instead of booked rate of $120. I'm very unhappy and diasappointed. Also after getting vehicle I smelled, and noticed marijuana crumbs on center console storage area.Reviewed 2017 Oct 17

Car was great and perfect--customer service less soPros:Car Ease of rental at airport and drop off location without busCons:Pickup took forever as they want to scare you into buying all sorts of extras "lots of accidents because of the weather, hitting deer, etc" Had to wait about 45 minutes or more (with reservation) as no cars were available and there were no agents in the garage for instructions. Previous customer in wheelchair was turned away "no car available because you said you'd be here 10 AM and it is now 5, so you lost your reservation." Car choice was not as expected.Pros:The car that I ended up receiving - a Ford Mustang - was excellent, just not what I expected and costing much more than promised. The woman at the counter for both pickup and drop off was very friendly.Cons:My understanding of the offer we booked was that we would have whatever car they had the most of on hand, expecting a compact or similar. Instead we were offered a 12 passenger van as the only option for the price promised. This does not seem like a reasonable option for a couple on a brief visit to upstate New York. It also would have been ridiculous for us to drive in a funeral processional in a 12-passenger van, but that's neither here nor there. As an alternative, we were suggested a Ford Mustang at double the rate we had booked. We ended up agreeing on a Ford Focus, at a cost of $100 more than our estimated total. The friendly Thrifty representative offered us the Mustang at the same price, which we accepted. The experience overall was mediocre. Had we known that only a van would have been made available to us for the agreed upon price, we would have made separate arrangements.Reviewed 2017 Jul 06
