The worst car rental experience of my life.Cons:Emma at he Burbank, CA Hertz location was an absolute nightmare. I reserved and paid ($166) for our rental ahead of time and according to my reservation I was to pay $70.26 at pickup for taxed & fees. I printed my reservation/itinerary which showed this as well as my proof of insurance & rental coverage overview from my agent. We get to the Hertz desk after a plane ride where our 2YO son vomited on us (despite that, I was still very polite to her-at first. I am not someone who takes my anger out on other people). I explained why we smelled the way we did and gave her our information and told her I did not want anything extra, no add-ons, just what we already reserved. She pulled it all up, handed me the rental agreement to sign and she wanted me to pay an additional $498! I told her there must be a mistake and that I wanted the reservation I was promised. She told me that what I reserved on Kayak was an "estimate" to which I told her that is100% untrue. After arguing with her for almost an hour I was so angry that I just agreed to the $298 she brought it down to and told her I would be contacting her manager. She refused to give me back my proof of insurance and my itinerary- it's 2017 so I have those on my phone, not sure what she was trying to do there. The next day I call to speka with a manager and who answers? Emma. I ask for a manager and refused to give her my name to which she condescendingly asks "so.. you don't have a name?" then she puts me on hold and the other woman who was at the desk when we picked up the car answers "Hi you asked for a manager?" and I asked her if she was one to which she replied "No..." and proceeded to tell me the manager was "offsite programming computers" and they didn;t know when she would be back. I called Hertz corporate after that nasty call and had explain it all 5 times and was reduced to tears I finally got someone to help and they brought the charges from $298 to $85. Totally ruined the first half of our vacation. I will NEVER use Hertz again. Such a terrible experience.Reviewed 2017 Mar 13

Never using Hertz againPros:They were fair and waived the fee after some stress and unhappy customers.Cons:Then came the drop off...they are closed Sundays so had to drop it off at Burbank airport. They looked at the car, handed us a bill for $100 and walked away with no explanation. Not even exaggerating. We looked at it and were confused what this $100 meant as we paid for the rental already. Turns out the place where we picked up did 2 deceitful things. 1) they lied about how much gas was in the car at pick up (THANK GOODNESS I TOOK A PICTURE OF THE GAS GAUGE) 2) they claimed we declined to choose to fill the gas tank and for them to do it. So this $100 was for gas. We showed them a picture of the gas gauge that we took when we picked it up. They said that was not what was written on the paper and corrected the mistake. They said we now owe $50. We were only a quarter tank off and refused to pay that much. We asked if we can take the car and get it filled that quarter tank we were short ( would cost us about 15 bucks). They said we could not because the car was already brought back. Now, they tried to do something nice and let it slide this time but told us next time to make sure to bring the tank of gas filled the same way we picked it up. Instead of standing there and listening to me thank him and tell him how much I appreciate that, the manager just walked away from me while I was talking. I was trying to tell him that he had just meet up for the long wait that occurred when we went to pick up our car. Very very poor customer service. I've never rented a car on my own. It's always been someone else doing the renting. Not a good first experience. I will not be using Hertz I'm the future.Reviewed 2017 Sep 05

Hertz good - Kayak HORRIBLEPros:That Hertz helped us fix a KAYAK problem.Cons:We arrived at Hertz and I handed them my reservation. We were at the LAX airport and they said my reservation was for Burbank. I said NO...I put in LAX in the reservation. The Hertz woman asked, " who did you reserve this through?" and I told them KAYAK and she said that they will do this....switch locations of where you are trying to reserve. I did not know this because this was my first time using Kayak. She was able to charge me a little more and get us into a car, but what if there were not any cars available. We would have been without a car for our trip. VERY FRUSTRATING!!! I WILL NOT USE KAYAK AGAIN!Reviewed 2017 Mar 20

Pros:The staff was very helpful and made the pickup and drop-off process easyCons:My rental was for a one-way, cross-country trip. While I was on the highway, one of the tires blew due to being incredibly worn and completely bald. One of the other tires was also completely bald, and I'm very luck it didn't blow as well. Hertz knew how far I was driving, but regardless, they should never have rented that car until the tires were checked and replaced.Reviewed 2021 Apr 27

Great service and carPros:We got a very clean Malibu. All personnel were customer-focused. I was happy with the weekly rate and unlimited miles. A flawless experience all around.Cons:We like to walk, so we didn't check on any options to get to the rental site, which was connected to Burbank Airport via skywalk.
