  • You’ll want a hire car while staying in the Palm Springs resort community so that you can take advantage of its award winning golf courses, art galleries, and chic boutiques. With a hire car you can also drive through the desert to Joshua Tree National Park, the Living Desert, or one of its other forests or botanical gardens.
  • Palm Springs International Airport is small, relaxed, and hassle free. Despite its size, many major carriers fly out of this airport. It also offers most of the amenities of any large airport including on-site car hire agencies such as Alamo, Avis, Budget, and more. Once you are off the plane, simply go to baggage claim, and retrieve your belongings, and the car hire company is right there.
  • When driving through the desert, make sure to have plenty of petrol since you don’t know how close the next station will be. Additionally, because of heat you should have plenty of drinking water with you in case of car trouble. If it rains when you are driving through the city, be on the alert for street and parking lot floods.
  • Note that in the winter the population increases considerably, resulting in more traffic. Traffic is thickest in Palm Springs between 7:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. Commuters returning home from work can also cause traffic backups between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Some of the heaviest traffic is on Hwy 91 and State Route 111.

Not in the airport...just to be clear on that and NO shuttle so need to take a cab, Uber or walk. Really not walkable per se, although can be done, but not with luggage But prices are good, the cars are decent, and service was excellent.

I enjoyed driving around Palm Springs. I mostly drove around town and did a day trip to Joshua Tree. The traffic was pretty easy - busiest right around downtown. There is a free underground parking garage near the art museum. It's a convenient place to park if you want to be right in the downtown area.

The reservation agent charged me two extra hours (almost a full day's rate, three hours would have been a full day's rate). I was unaware I was a little more than an hour early, I had made the reservation a month and a half ago. When I noticed the total amount was more than what was on my reservation paperwork I was told it was because I was early. When I said I could go have lunch and come back in an hour the agent replied she's already opened the reservation and couldn't change it now. She said she could only cancel the reservation and that I'd be free to make a new one. This was during the covid car shortage and they were turning away people due to the shortage of cars and the cars that were available were renting at a premium. I know canceling a reservation is not the only option unless it is a new company top down policy.

After reserving my vehicle with a debit card via the pay later option when I tried to pick up my car at Palm Springs airport the Hertz employee told me because I didn’t have the CREDIT card I used to make the reservations I could not pick up the car and I could not get a refund. I had to have a friend reserve the car under his name and pay an additional fee to add me as a driver even though I was the one that reserved for and paid for the car. Again, I made the reservation with a debit card, but it hurts. Employee refused to accept the card that I used to make the reservation even though that is the policy.

I arrived to only be told that I would be charged an additional 800 dollars on top of what I already paid online. I felt like I was being scammed for more money. I ended up paying 450 usd more than my quoted priced online when booking and paying. I feel very taken advantage of. Will never book again through Kayak or through this company. Disgraceful service and they should be ashamed.

We did not get the car we asked for--the alternative was too small for our needs. And, I felt ripped off by all the extra fees, etc. Based on the "advertised" Kayak price, we should have paid much less buying making an advance deposit. The fees drove up the total significantly. Net, most likely will not use a third party again for car rental.

The process was pretty smooth and quick.

Cons:

They didn’t have the type of car we reserved (suv) and gave us a 4 door chevy. It fit us fine but wasn’t the size we’d reserved. Also, the car had a big dent and scratch along the back side which looked a little crappy driving it around Palm Springs.

Counter agent in Palm Springs could have honored the original terms in the reservation from the beginning. The first contract he generated had the price at almost $900, the reservation price was about $398.00. It was corrected when I pointed it out to the guy.

The address is misleading as the office located on Airport Drive but the office is about half a mile or so from the actual airport, and there is no shuttle. It wasn’t a big deal for me, but might be for some. Once I arrived the staff was friendly, efficient, and courteous. The prices were good.

Outstanding customer service! Maria was super nice, personable and professional. I was visiting from out of town. At drop off I asked about an Uber cost and she gracefully offered to arrange a ride back to my rental 5 miles away. Brook drove me back. She was too was very sweet and a pleasure to talk with on the ride. Best experience with a rental Company.

The time to pick up defaults to noon which is when they close. I would have gone I. Earlier had I know but that was the time it said I was supposed to pick up my car. Luckily I got there at 1157 but I saw multiple people get turned down for cars they already reserved at 1202 because they were “closed” at noon. The employee and manager who were there could have easily waited the ten minutes it takes to get a car but decided to leave their customers agendas without renting the car they had already reserved

Wonderful and helpful team of employees. The venue was clean and we were offered cold water after stepping in from the heat of Papm Springs! The vehicle was clean and we had no issues for our 5 day stay.

Poor follow through on 2nd month and 3rd month of rental. Kept having to fix Budget errors in not renewing my lease until spending an hour waiting and then speaking on the phone to clear up Budget mistakes. Also overcharged by $100 on overall fee.

When I arrived just after 11pm to get my car, no one was manning the Avis/Budget desk at the Palm Springs airport. This despite their open hours being until midnight. I had to rideshare to my destination and return to the airport the next day to get my rental car. It took 90 minutes of waiting in line and at the desk for them to get me a car. They said they had run out of cars the night before. There was no communication about this nor was there any signage at the desk. A rep from another rental company told a couple of other parties and me that they had all gone home.

The pick up desk at PSP is a disaster, so many people wanting cars and too few employees helping them. Very aggravated customers in the very long lineup to pick up vehicles. Express drop off, on the other hand, worked very well.

Got to the desk and was shocked to see a line of people that probably would have taken over an hour to get a car. So went to the preferred desk when there was a budget and avis guy with nothing to do. I couldn't remember my number, but the guy looked it up. However, he gave me a Ford 150 truck -- a bit much. Soi, mixed bag, but appreciated the help

terrible experience. Airport staff said car was off site, didn't know that. Went next day together car and car rental facility was closed, no on showed. It was a HUGE hassle and will never use again!

Nothing. Your information was inaccurate. Was not able to take the car promised to me for not having a major credit care. Then was charged 10 dollars for penalty fee. Incredibly disappointed in customer service and buisness practices. I will never use your services again.
