Fox / Goldcar – Barcelona Airport | Do Not Book. Ever. ⭐ 0/5 I booked through Kayak, which is exactly why I am leaving this review here. Kayak users deserve to know what they are walking into before trusting this company with their travel plans. What happened I arrived at the Fox/Goldcar desk in Barcelona with a confirmed reservation. The agent immediately told me my car was unavailable, that it would take two hours, and that only larger vehicles were on offer at three to four times my original rate. I declined. I cancelled on the spot and made a new booking for the same vehicle category, listed as available on the platform at half the price she had been quoting me. I returned to the desk minutes later. The new agent claimed my reservation did not appear in the system. It did. A colleague confirmed it, but a note had already been entered internally instructing all staff to refuse me service. An employee had gone into the system and flagged my account for refusal simply because I would not overpay. What followed was two hours of manipulation. The quoted price jumped from 20 euros to 180 euros with no justification. Both agents spoke exclusively in Spanish between themselves, coordinating how to block me. When I walked out to the vehicle lot to find help, they abandoned their own desk, closed it, and physically followed me outside to make sure no colleague would assist me either. I left after two hours with no car. I booked elsewhere and had keys in hand within minutes. Why this matters for Kayak users When you book at a competitive rate through Kayak, you may be treated as an unwanted customer at the desk. These agents appeared to systematically target standard-rate bookings, pressuring clients into expensive upgrades or refusing service altogether. The price shown on Kayak is not the price they intend to honor. My documents were held for thirty minutes at the start while the agent pretended everything was fine. Then the refusals began. This was not confusion. This was a deliberate strategy, executed by two staff members working in coordination. Bottom line Do not book Fox or Goldcar through any platform, and especially not for Barcelona. The staff are dishonest, unprofessional, and organized in their refusal to serve clients who will not pay inflated prices. Zero out of five. The worst service experience of my life. Book anywhere else.Reviewed 2026 Jun 06

They charged me $50 extra at the end when I returned the car. There was no mention of these added surcharges, when I rented the car from them.Reviewed 2026 May 27

I was provided a quote through Kayak for $266.48 BUT Goldcar charged me $466.49 Cdn THEN another $200.86 on the same day. I want you to look into the matter and refund me $400.87! I look forward receiving a positive response to correct this over payment as soon as possible!Reviewed 2026 May 24

The vehicle(Compact Car) I was originally assigned was being cleaned and was going to be 30 mins late as it was being cleaned. I was upgrade to another vehicle(SUV-Premium Gas) with scratches outside on on one of the seats. On check In the agent asked me about a particular scratch which the Check OUT agent acknowledged was there and took video of which made me upset.Reviewed 2026 May 11

I had to extend my rental for 16 hours and they shafted me with a $150 dropoff fee plus a $50 change fee plus plus.. cost me almost as much as the week long rental. Disgusting. Completely unwilling to be flexible. Money gr ubbing company. Kayak was of no help. Using kayak effectively disables your ability to modify the reservation through the rental company, and kayak offers zero customer service on car rentals. Every time i tried to connect, call woukd regulary disconnect. Buyer beware of kayak and of foxReviewed 2026 May 08

The security deposit was outrageous and the request for an International Drivers Licence should have pointed out in bold letters before signing the contract.Reviewed 2026 May 07

Best car rental experience I've had. Fast and friendly. Hop on any big name shuttle to go to the new LAX car rental center.Reviewed 2026 Apr 20

Couldn’t beat a one day rental for $22. Pick up was fairly easy although the guy in front of me in line took forever. Car was ready to go, clean, no cigarette smells or anything else that was obnoxious, full tank of gas. Return was just as easy and by the time I got in the shuttle, I had my receipt. Shuttle buses run every 20 minutes and the driver was a really nice guy and safely drove us back-and-forth. I’ve rented from this facility before and while it does take a little more time because you need to take a shuttle bus from the rental car center, you do save a lot more money.Reviewed 2026 Apr 16

The car itself was fine, but we got bullied into adding additional insurance when we picked it up. We didn’t need additional coverage since we already had 2 types of insurance but the lady at the counter refused to give us the car misrepresenting local law. We’ve rented cars multiple times in California from various vendors and we never had to add additional insurance. Very disappointing that they drove up the price and made us pay more than planned.Reviewed 2026 Apr 15

This is just a very shady company. They are very untrustworthy. They never give you the vehicle you're promised and it's usually not in the same category. The check-in process is so long. I've used them twice and I will never use them again.Reviewed 2026 Mar 20

First car they gave me had no washer fluid - then I stopped and filled it up and it still did not work. So , I drive from Hamilton back to the Toronto airport to get a “safe car” where I could clean the windshield. They gave me a different car and gave me the money for the useless fluid that had been out in the other car. So they gave me a different car the next day. Needless to say, this one also has issue. Shame on me for not checking the washer fluid on the second car - because Logan’s behold - the second car had the same issue as the first. Brutal. Also, I got pulled over in burlington by the police the other day as they claimed that the plate on the car was expired and not valid. Wtf? So when I get asked for the ownership - guess what?!? - no ownership paperwork in the car. Do you guys really do this full time? This operation seems pretty unprofessional. I mean - who gives out unsafe cars? Twice? And with zero compensation…. Especially after I called and asked for the manager to call me back after I found the second car was unsafe too - but no call back. The guy at the counter was nice. But I would not recommend this company at all. Frankly - I hope you follow up on this. Tim Simon (905)407-8082Reviewed 2026 Mar 19
