The absolute worst experience I've ever had with a rental car company. Kayak should consider removing them from their search results. This company does not treat customers with respect. I actually never picked up my rental because no one was at the counter and I called them and a manager was supposed to come help me. I waited for 2hrs and at 1am I said forget it and got a car from Avis. There were half a dozen others in my situation with Payless. Horrendous service and total disrespect to paying customers.Reviewed 2023 Dec 25

Pros:They did not have the size car I reserved available. They gave me half a tank of gas, but no price discount, to take a smaller car.Cons:They should have had the right size car available. In Sarasota there was some problem with records so I culdn't just drop off the car, I had to go into the airport to finish the paper workk.Reviewed 2019 Apr 27

OverchargedCons:BEWARE!!! IF YOU MAKE AN ONLINE RESERVATION USING THIRD PARTY WEBSITES THEY MAY AND PROBABLY WILL CHANGE THE ONLINE PRICE YOU SAW TO THE PRICE THEY WANT AT THE TIME YOU SHOW UP AT THE COUNTER. CHECK ALL THE PAPERS BEFORE SIGNING AND PRICES, NO COOPERATION EVEN WITH EVIDENCE FROM CUSTOMER SERVICE AND MANAGERS THEY BLAMED THE THIRD PARTY COMPANY. FIRST AND LAST TIME WITH THIS COMPANY. Bad experiencePros:I liked that an employee (Mr. Camacho )went over and beyond to ensure I received a vehicle I made reservations for.Cons:Upon arriving at the pick up desk I was served by a rude employee. I was told I needed additional insurance for the vehicle which was an additional $15 per day. I asked if I already have lability insurance would that suffice. He told me he didn’t know for me to call my insurance company. I contact the company my coverage was sent over via email he reviewed it and then proceeded to tell me the vehicle I’ve made reservations for was unavailable. I was given what I thought was to be a minivan upon getting to the van I just covered it with a 15 passenger van. I was traveling with my two children there was no need for a 15 passenger van. Horrible pick-up experienceCons:Pick up was horrible. They did not have the car size I ordered, so I was forced to get an SUV which meant the gas was very expensive. Payless in the MIA airport is very small, so they only had 4 cars available, all SUVs. The man behind the counter was totally unhelpful. Then he gave me the paperwork for my original car (not the SUV), and so they would not let me leave the parking lot and I had to go back inside the airport to get the paperwork fixed. I have an 8 month old daughter so this was really a pain. Also they required me to purchase insurance - this should either not be mandatory, or if it is, it should not be stated on the fine print but somewhere more prominently. If I would have known, I would not have used Payless.Reviewed 2018 May 16
