Be aware ! Reserved and paid online for Grand Chrokee or similar for 1 week …. Did not have any car of that type….. So offered me a convertible and had to pay extra 250$ extra … called the manager and He offered me a pick up instead for same extra fees ( 250$ ) Dropped off the car the day after …. Following day ; received 2 emails saying couple scratch and graffiti on the car ( they wanted more money ) Lucky me I took 2 videos before getting in the cat After 5 days …. Still waiting for refund for the remaining of 5 days Im 57 years old … renting cars couples times per year Worst experience ever

I had scheduled the car for noon, when I arrived at the rental counter at 12:15 they told me the car wouldn’t be ready for 20 minutes. I waited an hour before the car was finally ready at 1:15. When finally getting the car the worker asked if I wanted to pay for a sun pass unlimited pass and for gas. I declined both which he then continued to ask two more times until I felt like I couldn’t say no and agreed to both. I paid $12 for the sun pass when I only went through two tolls, and paid for a full tank of gas when I used less than half of a tank. When I finally got in the car it smelt very strongly of cigarettes. Disappointing and over priced experience overall.

I booked this car several days in advance. Upon my arrival from the Bahamas to Ft Lauderdale I received a voicemail from Payless informing me they didn’t not actually have a car available for me. I was stuck in Ft Lauderdale on a Friday and could not find a rental car from anyone. They were all sold out for the weekend. I felt totally helpless. I spent the next several hours trying to make other arrangements. At 3:00pm a representative from Payless contacted me and told me that they had a 12 passenger van that had just become available. The van got 10 mpg and I had a 650 mile trip ahead of me. I declined the van and continued to make other arrangements. I must say my experience was pretty awful. Thank Ryan Fitch

They let us make a reservation for 7pm but we found out that they are only open until 6pm. Luckily we found this out before our day of travel. They offered for us to pick up our car at the airport for an additional $150. That seemed outrageous so we cancelled our reaervation

When I went to pick up the van, the first one was not clean. I had to wait for them to wash the outside. When they finally brought it to me, I opened the back door and inside was full of sand. I decided to take another van instead. When they brought it to me, there was garbage inside the vehicle. Obviously, it was not cleaned either.

When we arrived they had told me the vehicle we requested wasn’t available. They had a bigger vehicle as an upgrade. But it wasn’t a free upgrade. They charged us the full rate upgrade charge. It was 2am. They knew we had no other option and couldn’t really negotiate. I asked them for 20 mins to figure it out but they just said there’s nothing they could do and overcharged us.

Very personable staff WITHOUT push to buy additional insurance. It would be nice to have anexplnation of car. I had a GMC SUV (upgrade) and was having difficulty getting in gear.......pushing buttons until I discovered they are levers pulled forward. SIXT should clear the prior numbers on phone hook up. Mine was full and unable to connect my phone

Pros:

Once the reservation was made, I was quickly able to get a vehicle with no issues. Drop off was also a breeze. Just park, get luggage, and leave keys in vehicle. Would love if they all did this!

I booked online and was able to choose a pickup time. When I arrived at the counter at the airport, I was advised that my reservation was at another Hertz location and they were closed so I wouldn't be able to get my vehicle. I inquired why the website would let me make a reservation at a location that would be closed and they didn't give me a good answer. I had to cancel that reservation and make a new one at the airport that ended up costing about $80 more. Lesson learned!

Pros:

I usually rent from an off the airport company for economic reasons. When we got to the airport, we walked 5 minutes to the Hertz counter and they arranged for my rental to be picked up there (an extra $54.00 in airport taxes). We Figured taking an Uber back and forth was going to be similar. The rental process took some time because of the transfer. Picking up the car was a breeze (you select one from a pool). The vehicle was well maintained (smooth ride, everything working properly) even though it had over 30k miles. The agents (both at pickup and return)were very curteous and helpful.

Cons:

The oil change was due during my rental time (I rented for 2 weeks).

Requested a car at the Ft Lauderdale airport. Learned my reservation was not at the airport when I got there. Hertz people were rude and blamed Kayak. Worse they would not help get to their other rental site off of the airport. I had to spend $30 on a cab ride there. Once I got there two of the four people behind the desk were sleeping in chairs while I had to wait an hour to check in. When I thought things were close, they messed up the paperwork and had to restart everything. The next thing I know the woman helping me walked away without and insight as to why. She was gone for 15 mins and the long line of people began wondering if she went to lunch. At this point their office was full of irate customers. When she finally returned, she gave me the keys to my car. Of course the car wouldn’t start and the staff blamed me. I found the woman again and she couldn’t start it either. She then realized she had given me the wrong keys. Once she found the keys I walked back to my car and did get it started. However, the language for the car systems had been changed to Spanish. I had to find this woman again to ask for help. She seemed annoyed again and told me to simply “change the language.” Easier said than done since I cannot read the screens at all. I had to wait another 5 mins while they found someone who could do this. Worse, the car gas light was on and the tank was empty. Now I had to go get gas while my family waited at the airport for me to pick them up. It took over two and a half hours to catch a cab, wait in line, deal with my car, find a gas station, get gas and drive back to the airport. No apology, no help, no sympathy for my terrible experience. By the way, my son is on crutches from a surgery so that poor kid was stuck sitting in an airport for that two and a half hours. I would like to say that this was the end. But it started all over as I returned the car. Another 30+ mins waiting in line, rude service and another $30 cab ride back to the airport. They office has a shuttle van to take people to their cruise ship, but they refused to take me to the airport. I NOW HATE KAYAK AND HERTZ. I AM DONE WITH BOTH. I CALLED BOTH COMPANIES AND PEOPLE REFUSED TO HELP ME. YOU BOTH LEFT MY SON IN EXTRA PAIN AND DIDN’T CARE. HOPE OTHERS NOW STAY AWAY TOO!

This rental did not go well. When I showed up, I was given a car with a flat tire. No big deal, they gave me a new car.

Cons:

I noted the gas tank was at a quarter tank and came back in to tell the person who helped me. He said no worries, just bring it back how you got it. He did not make any notes. He did not mark my rental slip. When the car was returned, not only were they rude but they tried to extract money from me for not bringing it back with a full gas tank. I had a PICTURE of the dashboard with the gas gauge and they were still aggressive and rude. I had to threaten to deny any extra charges as fraud. Poor customer service.

We waited over an hour just to get the car. There was one person in line ahead of us. These people move at a mind blowingly slow speed. Once we got the car, it wasn't even well cleaned. There was trash in it and fingerprints everywhere. When we finally returned the car, there was no drop off process. We had to wait in the same long line again. It took over 30 minutes to return the car! Absolutely absurd.

Cons:

The staff at the airport in FLL certainly don't get in a hurry. We returned a local Budget rental and picked our one way rental up in the same place, and it took an hour to do so. While the employees talked among themselves and played on their phones, a long line of customers waited for them.

The Van Was New it only had 900 miles on it.

I was at the Airport and had to take a shuttle to the offsite location To pick up the van. When I arrived I had to wait Almost an hour to get the Van as it was at The Airport. It need a car wash and I was in a big hurry so this was a very Stressful hour to have to wait for the Van!! Overall my experience was a 4 star experience. The Van was clean, and did the Job of Haulling the family all over FLORIDA. The 10 dollar per day toll charges, We’re a bit uncalled for. I had to add the Toll pass on the Van and I am Sure I did not use more the two dollars leaving and Two dollars on the way back to the Airport! I had to pay 33 dollars to my rental for a 4 dollars in tolls. As if my $70 dollar per day rental wasn’t expensive enough.

Pros:

I was very happy with my experience with Thrifty Car Rental. I will use them again. I had to grab a cab to get to the very close offsite location in Ft Lauderdale, but it may have been a quicker experience than dealing with the airport's onsite vendors. I have often had to take a bus around the airport and then waited in long lines to rent cars at the airport. Thrifty was minutes away, very quick and very pleasant to deal with.

They tried to triple the price when picking up the car. Though advertised as free unlimited miles they were going to charge for mileage. They insisted we use their insurance, which would add more to the original price. From $76 for two days to $120 per day. When ask to cancel they said ok, but never cancelled the reservation. Luckily I was still able to cancel via kayak app.

Communicate with staff was fluid. Car was clean and in good condition. Pick up location was not clear but was able to get in touch with staff easily to adjust. Drop off to airport was well organized, punctual. Advice: bring a copy of your own insurance policy, otherwise they will want/pressure you to buy from them. Overall satisfied.

Horrible experience sorry I went to kayak and Avis Ft. We believed that our pickup was at the airport but the location was 3 mles away. This would have been fine but they did not have a shuttle so we had to pay for a taxi to take us to the locaiton. When we got their we were infomed that they had no SUV's at all which is what we paid to rent. They only thing they had on their lot was 2 Mini Van's which is what they told us we had to take. Even though their were plenty of SUV's 3 miles up the road at their airport location the woman refused to have one brought for us. We did not like the minivan at all. It was more difficult to park and since space was limited where we spent the week it became a big problem. I placed my rental request weeks before my pickup. There was no excuse for them to not have the vehicle I paid to rent.

Took a long time to get car due to offsite location. Charged an extra $40 for additional mandatory liability insurance’. Not worth the hassle of this rental.

Their shuttle never came and I was left stranded at the airport. I tried to call them multiple times with no answer.

Cons:

We never got our rental car. No one ever picked us up from the shuttle stop. We waited and waited and tried calling every number we could find and no one ever even answered the phone. Eventually we gave up and walked to Budget and waited in line to pay for a very expensive last-minute car rental. It was a nightmare. I will never again rent a car from a company I’ve never heard of.

Pros:

On pick up the agent wasn't happy I wasn't going to purchase additional options and became short with me. I have my own sunpass to avoid the cost and he threatened me it would cost $25 each time I went through the toll plaza which is incorrect, as I've rented many times from various companies with my sunpass and have had no problems.

Cons:

Better service geared towards helping the customer vs price gouging.

Industrial sort of sketchy neighborhood. Felt like a scam with last minute undisclosed required insurance purchase despite personal insurance and purchasing insurance coverage at time of booking.

Clean place cheap snacks compared to airport. Refused me a car after making us wait 30 mins in line since only one per counter policy… and no where does it say rental is refused of late by 2 hours, which is absurd since there are so many delays all the time at airport. Had to Uber to family and be dependent

Car rental agency requires everyone to purchase insurance. I had collision included on my credit card- a waiver from the card company is required. This took me about 45 mins to obtain. For liability insurance- Only a handful of insurance companies are accepted and they’re all US based insurers.. Strange As I’ve never had that issue with other companies in the US coming from Canada. Nice single happy camper observed leaving the rental counter.

I'll never go back to them. All well-known rental car companies typically ask who your insurance company is and you tell them and thats that. In my case Travelllers. This was not enough. They wanted proof, so I called my insurance company and they emailed me my insurance card. This was still not enough either, they wanted the declarations page, so I called again and had that e-mailed which worked. Super inconvenient and the guy behind the counter had the personality of a brick, his English was poor, spoke so fast one could not understand what he was saying and he did not really care about making the experience a pleasant one. I overheard the clients at the counter next to me mention the words, Mickey Mouse company, so I was not the only one disapproving of renting here. Car was ok for the money and clean enough. I wanted to extend and called both numbers on their contract. all 4 times I tried I was placed on hold, and the call was dropped within 5 seconds of being placed on hold, as if it was intentional. So I emailed and asked if an extension was possible at the same rate I had of $15.00 per day. They came back with $50.00 per day and I decided to return the car. I guess that's their prerogative but I chose to return the car and be done with them rather than extend. I'll never use these guys again and the impression I got was that they did not care about future happy clients at all

The rental location is not at the airport, so you need to take 2 different shuttles to get the car. The shuttle that takes you from the rental car center at FLL to the actual rental company location is unmarked and only shows up maybe every 30 min. When you arrive, the process to rent the car is difficult and they require proof of insurance yet they don’t tell you this in advance. Also, there is no local contact phone number for the company. The only number provided is an international number. Overall, a terrible experience.
