I had scheduled the car for noon, when I arrived at the rental counter at 12:15 they told me the car wouldn’t be ready for 20 minutes. I waited an hour before the car was finally ready at 1:15. When finally getting the car the worker asked if I wanted to pay for a sun pass unlimited pass and for gas. I declined both which he then continued to ask two more times until I felt like I couldn’t say no and agreed to both. I paid $12 for the sun pass when I only went through two tolls, and paid for a full tank of gas when I used less than half of a tank. When I finally got in the car it smelt very strongly of cigarettes. Disappointing and over priced experience overall.2.0 Poor

I booked this car several days in advance. Upon my arrival from the Bahamas to Ft Lauderdale I received a voicemail from Payless informing me they didn’t not actually have a car available for me. I was stuck in Ft Lauderdale on a Friday and could not find a rental car from anyone. They were all sold out for the weekend. I felt totally helpless. I spent the next several hours trying to make other arrangements. At 3:00pm a representative from Payless contacted me and told me that they had a 12 passenger van that had just become available. The van got 10 mpg and I had a 650 mile trip ahead of me. I declined the van and continued to make other arrangements. I must say my experience was pretty awful. Thank Ryan Fitch10.0 Wonderful

Cons:
The company runs a scam attempting to force customers into buying their insurance at $40 per day unless you have a copy of your own insurance policy with you. I have since read online that this has been done to many customers. Shame on Kayak for being involved with this company.10.0 Wonderful

Clear rates..... having all these extra insurance and misc charges that added $60 to my bill. My liability was cornered with Gieco and my AX platinum covered the rest. This omission of these extra charges was a flagrant omission when renting. I will certainly not tent from them again and blame myself for not reading the reviews4.0 Mediocre

Drop off fine, it was the pick-up of vehicle that was a disaster! Waited for 3 busloads at FLL to take me to rental center then waited for van to take us to Economy, then waited additional 50 minutes on line to get car! Then the Altima vehicle I paid for was unavailable got a Versa instead with no reduction in cost, moreover your agent charged my account $500 for liability insurance! I'm 73, own 2 homes and 3 cars in NYC & SC. Took us 3 1/2 hours to get wrong car in stifling humidity! TerribleCons:

The intake associate was not that friendly, However; he was not rude. I said hello to him and it took him a while to answer me, and he never smiled. It seemed like he was having a bad day. The drop off and pick up is very easy.Cons:
The van smelled like cigarette smoke which I’m allergic to. So that is why I rated the cleanliness as mediocre. Also I was given the van with the tank on empty. The associate did say that I could return it on empty (which I didn’t) so that was fair. It would have been nice however to have the van ready to go for my trip. I think you should notify customers that there is not unlimited mileage. I had to pay extra for unlimited mileage and was unaware of this hidden cost.2.0 Poor

When I went to pick up the van, the first one was not clean. I had to wait for them to wash the outside. When they finally brought it to me, I opened the back door and inside was full of sand. The Van Was New it only had 900 miles on it.Cons:
I was at the Airport and had to take a shuttle to the offsite location To pick up the van. When I arrived I had to wait Almost an hour to get the Van as it was at The Airport. It need a car wash and I was in a big hurry so this was a very Stressful hour to have to wait for the Van!! Overall my experience was a 4 star experience. The Van was clean, and did the Job of Haulling the family all over FLORIDA. The 10 dollar per day toll charges, We’re a bit uncalled for. I had to add the Toll pass on the Van and I am Sure I did not use more the two dollars leaving and Two dollars on the way back to the Airport! I had to pay 33 dollars to my rental for a 4 dollars in tolls. As if my $70 dollar per day rental wasn’t expensive enough.2.0 Poor

I was very happy with my experience with Thrifty Car Rental. I will use them again. I had to grab a cab to get to the very close offsite location in Ft Lauderdale, but it may have been a quicker experience than dealing with the airport's onsite vendors. I have often had to take a bus around the airport and then waited in long lines to rent cars at the airport. Thrifty was minutes away, very quick and very pleasant to deal with.One location in Poinciana Park

Once the reservation was made, I was quickly able to get a vehicle with no issues. Drop off was also a breeze. Just park, get luggage, and leave keys in vehicle. Would love if they all did this!Cons:
I booked online and was able to choose a pickup time. When I arrived at the counter at the airport, I was advised that my reservation was at another Hertz location and they were closed so I wouldn't be able to get my vehicle. I inquired why the website would let me make a reservation at a location that would be closed and they didn't give me a good answer. I had to cancel that reservation and make a new one at the airport that ended up costing about $80 more. Lesson learned!10.0 Wonderful

I usually rent from an off the airport company for economic reasons. When we got to the airport, we walked 5 minutes to the Hertz counter and they arranged for my rental to be picked up there (an extra $54.00 in airport taxes). We Figured taking an Uber back and forth was going to be similar. The rental process took some time because of the transfer. Picking up the car was a breeze (you select one from a pool). The vehicle was well maintained (smooth ride, everything working properly) even though it had over 30k miles. The agents (both at pickup and return)were very curteous and helpful.Cons:

Requested a car at the Ft Lauderdale airport. Learned my reservation was not at the airport when I got there. Hertz people were rude and blamed Kayak. Worse they would not help get to their other rental site off of the airport. I had to spend $30 on a cab ride there. Once I got there two of the four people behind the desk were sleeping in chairs while I had to wait an hour to check in. When I thought things were close, they messed up the paperwork and had to restart everything. The next thing I know the woman helping me walked away without and insight as to why. She was gone for 15 mins and the long line of people began wondering if she went to lunch. At this point their office was full of irate customers. When she finally returned, she gave me the keys to my car. Of course the car wouldn’t start and the staff blamed me. I found the woman again and she couldn’t start it either. She then realized she had given me the wrong keys. Once she found the keys I walked back to my car and did get it started. However, the language for the car systems had been changed to Spanish. I had to find this woman again to ask for help. She seemed annoyed again and told me to simply “change the language.” Easier said than done since I cannot read the screens at all. I had to wait another 5 mins while they found someone who could do this. Worse, the car gas light was on and the tank was empty. Now I had to go get gas while my family waited at the airport for me to pick them up. It took over two and a half hours to catch a cab, wait in line, deal with my car, find a gas station, get gas and drive back to the airport. No apology, no help, no sympathy for my terrible experience. By the way, my son is on crutches from a surgery so that poor kid was stuck sitting in an airport for that two and a half hours. I would like to say that this was the end. But it started all over as I returned the car. Another 30+ mins waiting in line, rude service and another $30 cab ride back to the airport. They office has a shuttle van to take people to their cruise ship, but they refused to take me to the airport. I NOW HATE KAYAK AND HERTZ. I AM DONE WITH BOTH. I CALLED BOTH COMPANIES AND PEOPLE REFUSED TO HELP ME. YOU BOTH LEFT MY SON IN EXTRA PAIN AND DIDN’T CARE. HOPE OTHERS NOW STAY AWAY TOO!One location in Poinciana Park

This rental did not go well. When I showed up, I was given a car with a flat tire. No big deal, they gave me a new car.Cons:
I noted the gas tank was at a quarter tank and came back in to tell the person who helped me. He said no worries, just bring it back how you got it. He did not make any notes. He did not mark my rental slip. When the car was returned, not only were they rude but they tried to extract money from me for not bringing it back with a full gas tank. I had a PICTURE of the dashboard with the gas gauge and they were still aggressive and rude. I had to threaten to deny any extra charges as fraud. Poor customer service.4.4 Mediocre

We waited over an hour just to get the car. There was one person in line ahead of us. These people move at a mind blowingly slow speed. Once we got the car, it wasn't even well cleaned. There was trash in it and fingerprints everywhere. When we finally returned the car, there was no drop off process. We had to wait in the same long line again. It took over 30 minutes to return the car! Absolutely absurd.8.0 Very good

The staff at the airport in FLL certainly don't get in a hurry. We returned a local Budget rental and picked our one way rental up in the same place, and it took an hour to do so. Could not believe the price, just $5/day + usual tax and fees to bring a spring-break auto out of Florida, after the college kids all went back to school. I got to use a nice vehicle for up to 3 weeks, with unlimited mileage. I dropped it off in Las Vegas, and NO drop fee!Cons:

The Florida drive-out was fabulous - a beyond-wonderful rate for a one way spring season rental. I am delighted to know about this program for future years. The full size car I originally reserved had a maintenance issue, so I was given a little smaller basically new car wth only 1000 miles on it that was zippier and actually better for my journey overall. I drove through four states in a perfectly working car, with unlimited miles and with car confidence. I thanked my car at the end - haha.Cons:
Since there are tolls in Florida with no toll-taker, I found myself confused about what to do with that, since my rental rep told me I could pay tolls by hand all over Florida, which isn't true. On pick up the agent wasn't happy I wasn't going to purchase additional options and became short with me. I have my own sunpass to avoid the cost and he threatened me it would cost $25 each time I went through the toll plaza which is incorrect, as I've rented many times from various companies with my sunpass and have had no problems.Cons:
