Pros:

Easy to pick up and return were fairly straightforward although the wait time to pick up was too long given there were very few other customers.

Cons:

They gave us a choice of two cars. One smelled terrible on the inside and the other desperately needed cleaning on the interior. There was a bunch of popcorn in the back seat and hand prints on the rear seat windows. We were not impressed. I mean you could see the debris before even opening the doors. Gross. And this is supposed to be a time of extra cleaning given the pandemic. May not use Alamo again.

The car was good and staff was friendly but we were charged more than expected and never received an answer when we questioned this. The amount quoted at the pick-up desk was slightly higher (about $10) than the quote. We planned to return the car with a fulll tank of gas but due to unexpected traffic we weren’t able to stop and were charged $48 (returned it with half of tank, charged for a full tank) and were charged an additional $36 for a recovery fee which we have no idea what this was for or why it was charged.

Awful. Stop pushing EV as rental choice. There aren’t any charging stations in and around the Ft Lauderdale area, all of the locations I was directed to were either broken or not there at all. (I had requested a Tesla which would not have been an issue, but was given a Ford Mach E). Get a better procedure before renting out vehicles because I turned away two because of cleanliness and marijuana odor.

It took awhile to locate the car, they couldn't find it. Then we waited 25 mins in the garage because they were cleaning the car. The whole experience took over an hour.

The Mitsubishi outlander sport drove very nice and the features that the vehicle has are a plus with one exception. There was no display to view gps like google maps or waze.

We arrived at the car rental place and could not find the ACE rental service. The email with the reservation was not clear and we had no number to call. We had to rent a car from another rental service.

Terrible!!! what started out as a $431.00 rental turned into a $809. charge on my credit card. They charge me for roadside assistance that I neither needed nor was asked if I did, I have full CAA coverage. Becareful of what you initial!! I was also charge a $250. for extra dirt. seems like they smelled smoke, although I do not smoke. I complained to head office with no success. Very bad business practice very disappointing!!!

VERY disappointing!!! My 421.65 dollar rental turned into a 803.27 charge. they claimed I signed for a roadside assistance package that I would never take, I have full CAA coverage, They should ask you if you want it before they put it on and its part of the many initials I signed for. They charged me a 250.00 charge for extra cleaning, supposedly they smelled smoke. I do not smoke, but perhaps they found an empty pack in the back that my freind threw away. I complained to head office but the FLL office said too bad, it all stands. No wonder there was nobody waiting in line at ACE like there was at every other company line. Buyer beware, very bad business practice!!!

The clerk was a gem. Very friendly and delightful to talk to. The value was excellent. The vehicle was exceptional. We were in & out fast. Resolution was no issue. The gate employee was efficient & helped with the Resolution promptly. He was friendly as well.

The car class we reserved was not available forcing us to upgrade at a charge, then despite declining all coverage we were charged for loss and damage insurance, both of these things ended up causing us to spend almost $200 above what we planned based on my kayak reservation

I was never able to pick up the car and still got charged for it because Thrifty could not cancel it for me. My flight was cancelled due to a tropical cyclone less than 3 hours before the flight. Obviously I could not pick up the car if my flight was cancelled. Expedia, whom the charge was under, couldn’t refund me because my itinerary couldn’t be found. Car rentals. com couldn’t find the itinerary in their online system either. I spent at least 3 hours calling Thrifty, Expedia, and car rentals.com only to get no refund and no cancellation. The emails from expedia have a car rentals com banner- was the whole thing a scam? I am forced to dispute the charge with my card, which is extremely inconvenient. I do not trust kayak anymore. I am out $200 for no reason. Lesson learned.

I know rental cars are scarce right now, but this car had over 46,000 miles on it and required maintenance. This is something that should be checked when car is returned. Reminder flag was in front of me for the entire 8 day use of the car.

Location is 10 mins from the airport. They up sell you on the insurance and car is not as advertised. I was given a Nissan economy car when it was advertised as a Mini Cooper. I'll never use Economy again, especially @ FLL at $250 for 3 days.

The company runs a scam attempting to force customers into buying their insurance at $40 per day unless you have a copy of your own insurance policy with you. I have since read online that this has been done to many customers. Shame on Kayak for being involved with this company.

Clear rates..... having all these extra insurance and misc charges that added $60 to my bill. My liability was cornered with Gieco and my AX platinum covered the rest. This omission of these extra charges was a flagrant omission when renting. I will certainly not tent from them again and blame myself for not reading the reviews

Worst experience ever. Shuttled to rentL center, then another shuttle way off airport, dumpy building. Had a reservation and were told no cars available for 2-3 hours. The days before our trip were riddled with bad weather in FLL and I understand this could hamper rental business, but send me a text or email to let me know that you have no cars, so we don't waste our time. Had to take the shuttle back to the airport car rental site and rented from budget.

The pickup point was unclear. Had to ask around to find out where to go. The friendly pickup driver was excellent. He handled our heavy luggage and gave us instructions on where to go and what to do. The staff were all courteous and though there was a line of people ahead of us, it moved along well. The vehicle was a low mileage SUV in great condition. The price was better than the big name competitors. So, all in all it was a good experience. Would use them again.

Cons:

Picking up the vehicle at FLL was extremely slow. There were only three people in line at the desk but it took forever. Then we were sent outside to the booth and had to wait in line again. In total it took about an hour to pick up our car. Drop off was fine.

Kayak and Expedia: talk with Avis and find a way to not take reservations when there are no cars available. I learned this when I arrived at the counter, which caused a great deal of inconvenience. I wasted a lot of time, and time is the only thing I can't recover. If you don't solve this, you'll lose me as a customer, and probably many other people.

Lauderdale Avis sucks mistakenly rented from location 1/2 mile from airport Shuttle took us to rental center wrong location Avis agent wanted double the original price I asked how to get to correct location he said Uber or taxi and yes cars there were available Got a taxi went right there haha they were closed Avis rep didn’t tell us about they we’re closed it was 6pm Again , sorry I used kayak / Avis Signed UNHAPPY CUSTOMER

My experience with Avis Rental Cars at Fort Lauderdale Airport was disappointing. Despite making a reservation, I waited nearly an hour in line for check-in, which seemed excessive given the low number of customers. The staff aggressively pushed extra insurance coverage and were unpleasant when I declined. To make matters worse, the car I was initially given was parked in an aisle where returned vehicles were lined up, making it impossible to pull out. Despite requesting assistance from the staff and searching for the manager, it took an additional 30 minutes to locate and change my reservation to another car. Throughout all of this, the staff showed little concern and were unapologetic. It's frustrating that even with a reservation, it took nearly 1 hour and 30 minutes to leave the airport with my rental. This experience falls far short of expectations, and I won't be choosing Avis for future rentals.

Even with a reservation, I waited 2 hours to get my car. There was only one person working and everyone was pissed. I was in HELL. I only rented because my flight was cancelled. NEVER AVIS again. Enterprise all the way. Also way overpriced especially since it was SUCH a horrible experience. I plan on telling everyone I know to avoid AVIS.

Their website is terrible. It was hard to get through to a person on the phone. Our flight was canceled due to the software problem, and we were unable to get a refund for our car rental from Expedia or Hertz.

The worst experience imaginable. Rented a Tesla and even though I arrived early - was told my Tesla rental was given up and I would be “upgraded” to another vehicle. This vehicle was a Corolla. In no world would this be considered an upgrade and I was extremely disappointed in the rudeness of the staff

because of flight delays and other issues we missed our pickup time such that it was cancelled and they still honored the reservation, then on the way out our flight got cancelled and we had to last minute make a reservation to get a car and they took care of us.

The one car I chose that was in the lot I was supposed to select from had a spare tire on, thankfully one of the attendants pointed that out so I had to take the only car left which was a 2 door Chevy Camaro- which wouldn’t have been my first choice. Also, the price of $79 was then I flared up to over $250 at the end of it all. Disappointing.
