Cons:Booked a van pickup 5pm and drop off at same time 2 days later. The day off, 3 hours before pickup, I get a phone call from the location telling me I need to pickup an hour early because they decide to close at 4 “today”. Of fine. “Oh and also you need to drop off before 10am in 2 days because we will be closed at 10am”. “Or you can pay an extra $60 for late drop off”. What?? Late drop off would mean I extend pass my 24h, which I’m not!! If you decide to close early how does that become my problem?? Very disappointing.Reviewed 2020 Mar 30

Cons:Booked a van for 2 days w/ 150 mile per day. Arrived at location to be told that policies “of this specific branch” have changed and are now 150 “per rental” (!!!??) Long story short it’s obvious Non sense. Worker at location didn’t show any compassion and on the phone corporate couldn’t do anything because “we are reservation center and customer center only works week days”. Customer service non existent, bummer for loyal and respectful customers like us but I guess that’s the way it goes now.Reviewed 2020 Mar 30

Cons:I can accurately rate this—they never showed up to pick me up. I waited a half hour for the shuttle and finally had to rent another car because I had a meeting in another town. I sincerely hope they didn’t charge my credit card.Reviewed 2020 Feb 10

Top tips for renting a car from Airport Van in San Diego

  • There is only one Airport Van branch in San Diego, which is at San Diego International Airport (SAN). This is a popular location to collect your vehicle from if you're arriving by plane because you will have fast and efficient access to the car. Even though San Diego has a good bus network, having a hire car means you won’t have to rely on public transport schedules. An Airport Van hire car also enables you to travel with more passengers or to carry more luggage, which adds to the convenience.
  • When you are in San Diego, there are lots of places you can park your Airport Van hire car. For instance, a good place in the centre of the city is 6th and K Parkade. This is open 24 hours a day and has CCTV in place, so you will know your car is secure. It costs around $1 (A$ 1.55) per hour or about $15 (A$ 23) for the whole day. Alternatively, you can park closer to the harbour at Seaport Village Parking, which is another 24-hour secure parking spot. Typically, the first 2 hours are free if you validate your ticket at a nearby restaurant; otherwise, it’s roughly $8 (A$ 12.30) per hour.
  • It’s important that you are familiar with the road laws when you drive an Airport Van hire car in San Diego. You must drive on the right-hand side of the road, which is different compared to Australia. If you want to use a mobile phone, you can only do so on a hands-free setting. If you’re found to be above the legal alcohol limit, you will be prosecuted accordingly. Children that are younger than eight years old must be in a booster seat, whereas all passengers need to have their seat belts on.
  • When hiring an Airport Van hire car in San Diego, it’s possible to return your vehicle to a different branch, even in another city. One-way hires are very popular in the U.S., but they do have an additional cost. This is calculated depending on where you are dropping the vehicle off, the type of vehicle you hire and the duration of your hire period.
  • Intermediate rental cars from Airport Van in San Diego are around 23% cheaper than other car types, on average.
